Bit of a question on induction

I have a panel filter in my 182 but my friend has an induction kit a typhoon or something and it pulls much better than mine is this right?

I use a replacement performance filter in my airbox and it works really well. It had a cone filter on it when I bought the car and it was tucked down behind the radiator so it was sucking hot air into the engine. I bought a renault airbox for the 172 and did away with the cone filter. It improved the acceleration and stopped the induction getting hot air into it.
