bit of advice

  Focus 1.8 TDCi
i currently wash my car doing the following

Rinse-with karcher pressure washer
Wash-Autoglym bodywork conditioner#
Rinse-with pressure washer again
Chamois Leather
Polish using autoglym super resin polish

is there anything else i should be doing

and also whats a basic good way of cleaning alloys wheels?

Dont use a chamois...they scratch the paint..let it air dry.
Also apply super resin using a cotton cloth and remove with Microfibre.
Then you should wax..I use megs quik wax or collinites 911..this protects all you hard polishing work.
apply wax the same way as the super resin.

Clean your alloys with the same stuff what you clean the car with.

where is the best place to get wax? halfords? and also i use autoglym polishling cloths...are these ok?

Get a drying towel to dry it with, depending on how dirty your wheels are will depend on the process needed.

got them now anyway. seems like a bargain...how often should u polish and wax...how long do u leave polish on for before removing?>

I also use poorboys wheel sealent on my alloys...makes it very easy to remove break dust and muck.
I also wash my car once a week..so muck dont have long to stick solid.

I normally wax .... Megs Quik wax..everytime I wash my car (once a week) and use the Collinites 911 every few months.
You dont need to use super resin as much as its protected under the wax..you want to build up the wax layer..and the super resin will strip the wax off.

I wouldnt let the air dry the car. That will leavemanky streaks and blotches.
Get some nice drying towels.
Id also think about a spray on wax after the wash like AG aqua wax to give it a good shine. The super resin is good stuff. I suppose it depends on the weather/air for drying time ? Dont do it in direct sunlight whatever you do. and only do a small area or a panel at a time. Wheels wise.. i wash my car like twice/3 times a week so they never get really dirty. I just wash them down then use AG alloy wheel seal. Im no professional though :)

They come off with the Quik wax. or you can buy this thing that purifies the water and dont leave watermarks.

Yaa but it just makes it a wee bit harderithink. i always just fire the aua wax on when cars wet instead of letting it dry.

What if you don't wax after every wash? Surely it's just easier to dry the car properly and then wax or seal every 1/2/3 months? Rather than waiting for the car to air dry and then having to go over with a wax every time you wash it?

I use Megs Quik Wax everytime I wash...brings it up amazing and smells yummy too.

Like I said ..everyone has their own ways of doing things and I was just saying what works best for me.:)

If your really dedicated in cleaning your car you could use a leaf blower to dry the car. I dont by the way. I use a waffle weave towel to dry the car.

You could wash it using the two bucket method which is meant to reduce swirl marks.

Basically have one bucket of car shampoo and one bucket of clean water. You dip your wash mit in the car shampoo wipe the car then rinse the wash mit in the in the clean bucket of water to get rid of all the crap you just wiped off your car. Then dip it in the car shampoo etc.

Also to clean your wheels you could use wheel cleaner such as meguirs hot wheels. And as Pinky said apply some wheel wax. I use chemical guys wax.

Whats up ?

This is a brief guide (Use at own risk)

Rinse off all loose dirt from car with karcher or hose.

And prewash with Snow foam if needed.

Wash with 2 bucket method as mentioned in last page with a wash mitt and your chosen car shampoo.

Rinse

Rinse off all loose dirt from wheels with karcher or hose.

Use wheel cleaner if needed, if shampoo aint enough to shift dirt.

Use a seperate bucket from one used on car and clean wheels with another wash mitt and you can double up your car shampooo if needed for extra strength.

Once sufficiently clean rinse and dry with another waffle weave or microfibre drying towel.

Dry bodywork with waffle weave or microfibre drying towel (pat it on the paintwork if worried about scratches) or use QD (Quick detailer) as a lube.

Clay if needed

After using your Super Resin Polish seal with a sealent such as Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (EGP) or Jeffs Acrylic Sealent to seal it in.
Your best with a couple of coats/layers of Egp 24 hours apart if you can. Jeffs can be layered straight away (so i've heard)

After a sealing in use a decent wax such as Collinittes 901, P21's, Meguiars etc for the last step of protection.

Then apply wheel wax such as Poorboys wheel sealent) if desired
Then dress plastic trim, tyres and clean windows etc etc.

I think thats it if i've missed anything sorry..
