Bit of mac help!

What is an 8 core mac? My mate has left me a drunken voicemail during the night to say he just bought one, thought he had got his hole at first from how excited he sounded

depends if he has the new imac there quad core, but each core can hyperthread that makes it look like it has 8 cores...

or he might have the mac pro, with dual xeons - each one being quad core - but again this can hyperthread so looks like it has 16
