  Mint 1*2's for sale-
No I still think it's fair and I was quite carefull with my wording in the thread actually, as nowhere did I say he shouldn't, merely that it f**ked me off. But I guess you just wanted to jump in there and shout har-de-har? Ohh well, probably should read things a little more before diving in.

I have to say I am not naive and understand business and I even said I would have done the same in my post which didn't come through in your quote as I added it after when re-reading.

The reason why I felt annoyed was he said I would be the first to see and wouldn't let it go until I saw it. This was on the Wednesday iirc and had agreed to see it Saturday morning and we had discussed money and deposits but that's irrelevant to what I was saying.

Theres certainly some irony in this thread with what Jamie said, I hasnt to add I didnt know that he was buying it otherwise I wouldnt have even looked-Its always down to the decision of the seller to inform third parties of whats going on-
In this situation he should of been clear either way with Jamie by saying deposit secures or Potentially someone else can look-

no hard feelings with Jamie as he now has a very nice trophy-

To be honest, like others have said. Money talks.

If someone comes along with the cash, I will sell the car to them.

As I personally have had alot of "I'm coming down next wednesday" please hold it for me etc.. it's all b****cks. No deposit? Don't cry if the car sells.

And Daniel, I'd apply that to people too... well 98% of the time anyway

When I bought the M3, we drove over 3 hours to find a mint one, I said I would take it and return in two days with the harry mash.

I said how much deposit do you want and he said "its ok, dont worry I will hold it for you" etc but I insisted that I leave £300 to secure it, then he knows he has a sale and I know I can stop driving over the UK for a car.

Its much harder to sell it to someone else when there is a dipper with the seller, I have always worked like this when buying and selling!

PAYPAL, Bank transfer was offer- both declined- wanted to deal cash-

Perhaps on reflection he secured me whilst agreeing to let someone else look-
Either way its bad Karma-

Best go & give the vee a blast----

Heh. I believe that too. Some sh1t will come right out of leftfield for him, sooner or later.

Travelling a few miles to find out that the car had been sold = pisser. Travelling all the way from down South when you had already agreed to the car = total piss take, imo.

No wonder the lad who bought my previous car was was on the phone severals times to me. "You won't sell it will you? You won't let it go? I'll have the money by Tuesday." Lol. I gave him my word and that was that.

Did he offer a deposit though?

I can't beleve in this day and age especially considering a hell of a lot of private car deals are setup over the internet, that people still expect people to hold anything not just cars without some sort of deposit in place.

I've travelled to buy cars even ones I havn't seen the in the flesh and agreed a refundable deposit should for whatever reason I am not satisfied once I get there...

I'd be quite happy to hold a car for someone if they left a deposit, however if all I have is their word of mouth and someone strolls up with 7k cash in the mean time... Well I know which choice I'd make!

Not 'har-de-har' so much, I just wondered if you saw things differently after it happened to you. If you think it's fair, why were you so f**ked off and sent him a s**tty e-mail?

Yeah it's business, but it's a s**t way to treat people and I wouldn't do it myself.

Well, I suppose it's the way he went about it. If he had said "Hi Jamie I've sold the car I couldn't take the risk you wouldn't buy it so sold it to someone else, sorry to have wasted your time" I would have taken it a bit differently (I think). Just becuase something is fair doesn't mean it should be the way to go about it.

Ohh for sure, no hard feelings it was nothing to do with you or your fault. You turn up to buy and go on that premise. I thought it was a bit ironic really! Showing how common it is.

This happened to me about six month's ago agreed price and everything the night before setting off got a text at about 10 30 when i was in the pub saying cars sold thanks tosser i hope somebody keys his new car

I can understand both sides, first with the money etc. But surely the seller could hold off a local buyer for a few hours if he's got someone who has arranged to come down and see it, arranged being the key word here - give the bloke travelling down a time and if he doesn't make it, then sell it to whoever you want.

If that had happened to me I'd have went there and lost it one way or the other, feck taking it on the chin.

Boiler buyer has been my most recent experience. I explained the reg was being retained initially said he had private reg himself all fine so I thought. He started to talk to me saying he was so genuine that he would tranasfer or nominate me as the garentee for the plate if I let him take the car straight away. I told him I wasnt comfortable doing that as by law the car including plate would no longer belong to me? Ok so agreed for him to view the car even though was quite ill at the time with a virus. Guy is so overwhelmed by immaculate condition we agree fa price+ some new tyres, gave my word no one would view the car as he was totally genuine and having it fair enough. I thought genuine buyer so when he offered me £30 as a deposit I refused not worth it I said unless £100 or so. He's been a bit pushey all along about car plate etc then sending funny messages now he has pulled out the v5's turned up I have not let anyone view the car despite intrest (true to my word!)and have to pay to advertise car again rant over some people.

well as I 'sold my car' on Tuesday and the boy never turned up to get it (no deposit when he shook on it) I am on the other side of the fence on this.

I was well pissed off, but sold the car yesterday so all is well.

However, in my view (and what I would have done) was explained to the other person that someone was travelling a distance to see the car, and I would rather they had a chance to see it first.

Its just common decency

i advertised my mums car a few years ago, the first guy who called and arranged to view was coming the next afternoon.

i had about 5 other phone calls from people asking to come and view it i just took their numbers and told them a guy was coming so no point but if he not buy i will call them back. some people got a bit arsey saying they were coming tonight with cash and asking where i live.

it a matter of what kind of person you are/are not

ps he did buy it or i may have indeed felt a cnut for turning down all those other viewings

Sounds like a decent guy TBH, you should be grateful.

  not a bloody clio!!!
When i was selling my 182 i had it advertised for adges. A lad of hear was interested and wanted to come down to view. The day before he was ment to be coming down I had a shed load of phone calls about the car and two people came to view. A lad wanted it but had no money for a deposit and a nice girl of hear came and put a deposit down. Now i felt realy bad for the lad as i no he was going to travel along way and he had sorted a lift out etc. But i needed the car sold

End of the day its first come first serve. Unless they paypall you a deposit it stays on sale untill the cash is in your hand

Had this when I was seling my 205 gti. I'd found a Mazda 323 gtx for sale, which turned out to be the same one I was going to buy 3 years earlier, but some pisshead hit and wrote off my ae92 Corolla gti that I was going to sell to buy it.

Was really looking foward to buying it, so put up my 205 for a good price and had loads of interest. Agreed a sale with someone who luckily lived near the Mazda. I explained all the faults, marks, and anything else on the phone. He'd been after one for months and was set on mine. Kindly drove 70 miles to his house to sell it. He had one of his Dad's mates who 'knew' a bit about cars. he pointed out a few things that I told him about, and said not to buy it. The buyer was in no way apologetic, didnt want to test drive it and pretty much shut his front door in my face.

Didn't have a bad ending though as the next week popped into a local Citroen specialist to have a head skimmed, and drove out £100 lighter in a Bx 16v, 3 days later had a 205 Mi16, and was £300 better off after selling the 205 engine and BX parts! I used to live in the area of the idiot buyer, and went out for a drive with a couple of mates in our Gti's. Ended up at a country pub where this kid worked, and he had the tattiest Gti i've ever seen!

if youve agreed a sale tht should be it!!!
