Blowin a fuse

Ok, its hot - very hot - and im not just talking about the weather. Unfortunately for me - i have been driving for about 3 months without a radiator fan - a real pain and even more so now that its summer. On saturday i put a new fuse in and the fan worked - whoopie, since then though it has blown the fuse. So i put another one in and that has blown - any advice as i cant drive in this heat without a radiator fan!

On a more serious note, blowing a fuse means 1 of 3 things.

1) The Fuse you put in is too low (very unlikely) check the plastic cover for correct rating

2) There is a short in the wiring

3) The fan is drawing too much currant (or something attached to the same circut is).

Right, i spose hte cable could have been rubbing and now the wire is shorting against a peice of metal work - would sound likely coz the fan worked when the car was stationary and hadnt been driven - hence i hadnt been over any bumps to make the wire knock against metal thus shorting it.

I know the fuse is the right rating. How can i check to see how much current is running through? Volt metre on the wire perhaps? How much should it be?

is the fan free? if the motor is stiff it can draw to much current and blow the fuse. 12v is the voltage, current flow is meassured in amps. there is no amp ratings in renault documentation im afraid. also look for any short circuits eg-wires rubbed through,water/corrosion in connectors, short circuit in fuse box or short circuit within the motor. a fuse will blow if it directly shorts to a vehicle earth or a voltage.
