Blown fag lighter!

i plugged a set of them blue interior lights in my fag lighter today. they lit for a split second then went off.

it turns out, my fag lighter no longer works, and when i push the trip computer stick in, the trip computer dosent change display, i can only view the mileage.

whats up?!!!

1 - Check your lighter fuse. Check your trip computer fuse (if there is one)

2 - Use a MultiMeter to check that:

A) The earth is OK by connecting one probe to metal on the chassis and the other to one of the lighter points (cheeck for voltage or beep)

B) The 12v cable is OK by connecting the probe to the other point in the lighter socket.

It might be that the computer stick and the lighter use a common earth cable which has fizzed.

the fag lighter is working again now, i changed the fuse ove, it was blown. however, the computer stick is still not working, but the fag lighter is fixed. any ideas?

LoL I am with Rob on this one.

If you remove the neons from the cig lighter does the computer work again? If it does its the neons. Try taking the neons out and replacing the fuse for the computer. you never know. If the neons in the cig lighter are the problem, think about wiriing them up properly.

Id personally just take it to my dealership and tell them to fix it, considering youre under warranty you should make them do everything and anything.

The shock which blew the fuse may have also shorted your computer controller........rip the whole lot out and scream at it.

Is there any way in to the area where the controller is, to see if any of it is a burnt black or melted plastic colour? Probably needs replacing.
