blown my head gasket



  E92 M3
just went to check the oil pissin on wen parked up and seen yellow on the inside ov the filler cap

hw much is it to fix

can i still drive it or nt

If the head gasket goes, the engine oil and coolant/water mix. The engine will still run, but will overheat. Make sure you don't run it for too long or let the engine get too hot, because the head may warp.

If you take it to Renault, it'll be a fair few pennies to fix. The part itself is no more then £60, but the labour is the bestpart.

If I was you, I'd either, have a crack at it myself if you're good with a set of spanners. Make sure you buy a Haynes manual though. Or find an independant garage to do it for you. They'd probably only want £150/200 labour on it.

Might be worth getting the timing belt done at the same time if a garage do it....

Oh, by the way. To diagnose a head gasket, the engine will mix the coolant and oil. This will make the oil coffee coloured. Check under the oil filler cap, you'll be able to see.

The engine could also feel under-powered and may well make a "clicking" or "puffing" noise....
 
A mayo like gunk on the inside is quite common on the 1.2 due to there often stop/start nature and poor sealing.

If the cars given a good blast on a m/way it should clear it up nicely.

check the water bottle if its dirty water its blown and as said give it a good run. mu old corsa had it when i brought it and after regular use it went

Will mostly likely just be condensation getting into the filler neck on that lump i'd be very surprised if the h/g is shot.

its got 78k on it tho and its got the milky colour under the cap thats what made me think that its gone but ther is no noice and the water is still blue

i am scared to give it a hrashin cos i thought thats wot caused the gasket to go

its not headgasket mate, its condenation which has mixed with the oil building around the filler neck/cap.

caused by short journeys, engine not warming up to optimum temp

is it overheatin at all?
if so it might well be the water pump,
if thats the case, avoid driving at all

mine had this aswell, if you say its caused by short journeys then its probly cos i only go about half a mile to work everyday

smell the water, does it smell of oil or has it a haze on it.

check the oil on the dipstick... is it all oil or has some water...
