Blue smoke and oil emptying rather quickly?

It's an 04 1.2 16v and it has been kicking out blue smoke recently, mostly in 1st and 2nd.

It also managed to go from the top mark on the dipstick to the bottom mark in about 5 or 6 weeks. I filled it to the top mark about 2 weeks ago and it's about a third down again.

Are there any common faults that can cause this? What do you think it could be?

It's not missing or anything and runs just fine. Surely i would be a cylinder down if a piston ring had gone?

Is it worth a compression test do you think?

I would go with worn out rings, I'm afraid it is a major job, cylinder head and sump off jobby. Your car has suffered major abuse in it's past, lack off oil, long intervals between oil changes etc.

That's the odd thing. It's been mine since day one and it never really been abused. Strangely enough though it does seem to have started after my oil light came on a few month back :(

possibly caused some damage when it was low before then. piston rings etc wont cause it to run any differently unless theyre drastically fooked. might be worth hunting a replacement engine if theyre cheaper?

Just one last question!

Will this get worse with time? If i keep my eye on the oil and keep it well and truly topped up will it be okay or is it all down hill from here? Reason I ask is, I have been keeping my eye on it for a while now but it did kick out a fair old cloud today, the biggest one I have seen yet anyway.
