Bonnet catch (recall?)

  525 E34, Alfa 156, Clio
Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old subject, but I was wondering what the bonnet catch recall is about. The person who I bought my 1999 Clio off last week has contacted me to say she's got a letter about it.

From what I can see, it's to do with bonnets popping open? (There is a similar recall with Alfa 156's).

I went to check mine today....and the bonnet wouldn't open! Turned out that the plunger thing on the spring (attached to the bonnet) was sticking. I took it off, cleaned it up (it was rusty), greased it, and it's fine now.

The mechanism in the slam-panel is moving fine (but I re-greased it anyway).

What gets changed in the recall (if anything)???

Cheers,

Iain

whole bonnet catch.

Do a search millions of threads.

VOSA said: “VOSA engineers in conjunction with Renault, carried out a thorough investigation into reports of inadvertent bonnet openings of Renault Clio Mk2 and Clio Campus models.
“This investigation found there was no design or construction defect with the bonnet latching mechanism. Instead it was determined that inadequate maintenance – through lack of cleaning and lubrication could lead to the latching mechanism failing to operate correctly.”
