been thinking about hard wiring a boot neon in to light up the sub. my m8 brought a 306 with it wired in so that wen u lift the boot it comes on as the boot light would. any ideas on how to do this with the clio? any pointers would be great.

do u mean snip the original wires behind the boot ligh and join the ones off the neon? thought about it but there is three cables there so unsure about it. i figured 1 was pos 1 was neg and the other maybe a ground 1?
You'd be better off finding which two wires get 12v when the boot is opened and lose it when you shut to boot. Then use that to power a relay to turn the neon on and off, then you don't need to worry about the current that the neon draws being greater than the circuit is rated/fused for.
I have a relay that drives all 12 of my interior neons, you have to be very careful because if you pull too much current through the original car circuit (i.e more current than it has the mo- designed for) you will cook the multitimer located in the front of the car!! and trust me tht will be bad news! and expensive!!!!!!!!!!
o rite cheers how did u install yours m8 ? like with the relay and stuff sounds difficult. do you reckon a current draw of 5.0Ma would be ok to use the current boot light feed?
I think if you are going to just put it on the current loom, you need to cut the current bootlight out of the circuit and replace it with the neon one. I have all my neons wired in parralell and fused, they can be operated by a master switch or a relay which is hidden in the roof lining, this operates when the interior light does and switches on the neon circuit. And gives for some very good lighting
I wanted a neon, Ended up just replacing the festoon bulb with a blue one. And im happy with it. Does what you want (on and off with opening and closing the boot) and it illinates the whole boot at night:
Guys you do realise that a fluorescent light drains miniscual amounts of power. Putting it on the boot light will be absolutely fine. Just use a voltmeter to determine the wires that need cutting.
i'd say yeah they do pull a bit more on start up but i'd still say it would be less the the start up current of the festoon lamp thats all ready in the boot
Don't know about power they eat up but I had no problem with the 2 neons in my old install
Two 12" neon bars - one in the amp panel and another bolted under the boot latch to light the sub
Run off the battery light with a kill-switch hidden in the trim
look nice mate so basically u just used the old boot light feed ? i only want one single 12" light. if so how did u connect the pos and neg from the neon just with crimps, and what did u do with the third cable in the boot light ?
So long ago now since I had that setup, think the neon was connected to a black and a red wire with bullet connectors
I didn't do it myself the installers put it in.
