Boot solenoid - pipe missing??

  Ph2 172 / Mk1 Escort
Right guys, having a 'mare sorting the boot out on my Ph2 172. Since buying the car second hand I've never been able to open the boot via the push button, always had to do it from the inside. I put it down to a knackered solenoid as I wasn't getting any noise from the area when activating the central locking.

Anyways, I managed to sort a replacement mechanism but I'm still not having any joy opening the boot. It's locking/unlocking now which is a good thing. On closer inspection it looks like I should have a pipe or something attached to the solenoid (circled red) but I can't seem to find anything in that attaches to it.... Would I be right in saying this is where the issue is as I can't seem to find a pipe anywhere?

I've attached a video below too, just to show how much movement I'm getting in the mechanism as it is.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that pipe should be somewhere in the boot - have you tried reaching in?

Yeah, tried reaching in but nothing. On the other hand I have done a bit of head scratching and gone back out to take another look at it, turns out that the button was in upside down which in turn was restricting how far it could be pushed in.

All fixed now.

Turns out the problem was me

the tube tat's on there is just for directing some rainwater to the bottom of the boot . but without it it should eventually drip out
