Bootlid Aerocatch advice

Gutted the bootlid on my 182 and now its time to fit my aero catches.

Is everyone just using the rubber grommet holes for the striker pins?

If so, When actually mounting the catches, will they sit flush enough if I fit them horizontally?

Also is there anything to look out for or hints or tips for actually fitting them.
