bore

does anyone know a company who would be prepared to bore out the 1.2 16v existing 1149cc??

i think that around 1300 is available from the engine, just want to see what the likely cost will be and what perfoamnce gains i can expect are

help is gratefully accepted

  Nissan R35 GT-R

Youll be paying at least £2000 to have the engine stripped and built again. New pistons will set you back at least another £300. All for a few more ccs. I dont think youll find it money well spent when you realise it drives much the same as it did before.

well its either that

or drop in a 2.0 16v engine, that will cost me an extra 20% on my policy (which isnt too bad)

any idea on price for doing that?

its more than likely going to work out cheaper for me to have a transplant than actually get a 172 and insure it

plus i loike the idea of having a street sleeper, when someone thinks you have got a 1.2 16v and decides to race you, the look on their faces when you blast them away is magical

I think the novelty would wear off. Id rather get a mk1 172 with a warranty. Most people dont realise how fast 172s are anyway, you could always de badge it!

nah

im set on the idea of keeping the same shell, i know how the car has been treated, never been involved in any accidents of any sort, and that its not going to rust inside the next 12months (if it does reno can take it away to be sorted, and give me some compensation money for my troubles)

edit - plus where i live having a car hat looked as good as a 172 is asking for trouble

i think a 172 engine would be far more reliable than anything else,

using a non reno lump would be far too much hassle

though a 5Turbo lump would be a nice idea

something tells me that aint gonna fit intothe engine bay, plus all the extra weight at the front (it will HAVE to go in there because i love my ICE) will make it handle like a complete pig

would be fun though

to actually bore out the engine machining costs are about 150 quid inc honing and prep. BUT, you would need to find pistons that would fit the bore size and im not sure youcould get very much larger in the bore. +90 though would be a fair bit, and not really worth it.

Basically, you wont get more than 120bhp out of your engine in NA form without spending a shed load of cash com custome parts/machining gas flowed heads. Then we would need to work on a cam profile that would work, then get springs hat fitted or made up, then get custom valves etc etc...it would go on and on and were talking the price diff to buy a faster car and pay the insurance.

Just wait a while, this board is going metal with engine swaps, but rarely do people understand just how hard it is to swap motors, and tunning of the REAL variety is not cheap if the engine isnt alreadya popular engine to tune. Custom parts cost alot and development is lengthy.
