boring old insurance Question!!

  CLS, RS MEG

my insurance is due for renewel, and i want to get it in my name this year. Been driving since i was 17, im now 19 with 2 years experience, and no accidents + 0 no claims. Been quoted £998 3rd party on a 1996 1.2 oasis. Does this seem reasonable? Good postcode area and car off road.

doesnt sound too bad! do some quotes online, have a look at confused.com! and then ring round and try to get it cheaper!

ive only really gotted internet quotes to be honest. Direct line, Tesco, asda and churchill seem the best, then theres the stupid companies such as zurich who want 3 grand? Cant get my head around their system :S

  500bhp Scoob

id say thats an average figure.

the fact that you werent on your own policy means youve got no NCB to bring with you, to lower your policy down.

Im with Renault insurance personally.
And no-one can touch them for me.
Im 23, no points/claims and im paying £700 FC on my 182.
But i do have 5 years no claims lol

Tried the likes of Elephant etc ?

  S2000

Try elephant. 96 1.2 for a 17 year old on provisional licence. Price just under what yours is I think it was with mods too.

Its due in a couple of weeks, so ill make some phone calls. I had a company car for a year aswel, but i suppose NCB discount wont apply! The 998 figure is without declared extras, bigger wheels etc :S So im yet to get my pants pulled down even more...

Agree with Dan but you might find that the mainstream insurers like direct line and tesco etc are a little expensive - They specialise in giving cover to low risk customers (over 25, no claims etc.)

I would seriously recommend going to a broker and letting them do the leg work for you, pref not online (but use online quotes for leverage) - Sounds wierd but the good old high street broker can secure great deals for non mainstream risks.

My guess is that you could get fully comp from a broker for about 7 to 8 hundred. (With an excess of approx £500)

BTW put named drivers on if they are experienced etc. - Putting your mum or dad as a named driver at the same home address, over 30 with loads of ncb can reduce your cover by up to 10%!

A lot depends on your postcode though....... can mean as much as 40% loading.

Ill try elephant tomorrow then, and also some local brokers from jezzas recommendation. Cheers eveyone!!!

BTW - If you try local brokers they are now regulated by the FSA and as such have to let you know what commisssion they are getting from the insurance company/ underwriter at Lloyds that they place your policy with, but only if you ask them! If you ask them and the commissison is high it gives you another bargaining tool to get the price down.

Also tesco is not an insurer, they are effectively an intermediary for an underwriter and as such they are bound by the same FSA rules - they have to disclose their mark up/commission when asked, again gives room for negoatiation.

Direct Line mate. I know theyre not the cheapest for most peeps, but theyve been consistently the cheapest for me for years, and their service has been amazing. I (almost) always just renew with them without question.

saying that, I dont even have the freakin car yet! Hoping for a next weekend pickup! And Im wetting my pants. The insurance started midnight last night though :D

IMO 20kg doesnt make the full fat 182 too sluggish, but arctic blue is the fastest colour colour in the west gringo:D

When you attempt to pass me Ill just dial in the right temp on my climate control and watch your red face glow !!!!!

20kg is 20kg

"It dont matter if you win by an inch or a mile...winnings winning!"

Only kidding mate. I hope I wont regret not having the leathers - thats the only thing Im even remotely concerned about. Most peeps wolud love having either car, so I wont lose any sleep.

Roy (if thats you real name!) Have you not driven a 182 or 182 cup? Your earlier post says not but surely you must have given one a go before ordering?

BTW leather alcantara seats are the bees doodas, iirc the seat issue in the cup is the bench rear seat with no split or headrests - I may be wrong though, its my age!

Are you from CIS GR? Only it says WE, is this a cut and paste or are you a fellow insurance bore?!:)

Nope, I have not driven a 182, or any Clio.

I decided on the Cup because I dont want the gay extras that the 182 offers (wipers, xenons, climate, yawn). Only the leathers could tempt me, and even then I chose the slightly lighter car.

Its all good :)

BTW my real name is Dan

900 sounds high, thats what I pay fully Comp on a phase 3 worth 2k+, 19 with 1 years NCD.

Youll find internet quotes generaly higher, NU are usualy best for me, over the phone..

Most insurance companies allow 10% discount if you buy it online - I suppose you have saved their staff a few minutes by filling in the form yourself!

JEZZA, to expand, Ive always been a fan of drivers cars.

My pops was an original Williams owner, and the founder of the Just Williams group. Before that he owned a 205 1.9 GTi. After that - an Elise and an S2000.

Drivers cars have been in my family for a long time, and when I knew I wanted a 182, I didnt waste too much time waiting to drive one - I trust popular opinion on these types of cars :)

Dan thats quite brave old chap! But Im sure itll live up to expectations. As for the full fat 182 bits, the auto wipers are a pain and would be better without tbh. The rest I wouldnt be without... but then I have to say that dont i. No really, the xenon lights were a problem to begin with because the aligment was wrong but once that was put right they are brill!

The climate is great especially for rapid screen demisting as it has its own setting just for that, not to mention that renault didnt do the 182 cup when I ordered mine!

Glad your not really roy Munson, driving a cup would be difficult with missing fingers!!!

Had a Pug 1.9 GTi myself back when they were newish, then a Supra beastie (the old Celica Supra 2.8 straight six) so know what you mean about drivers cars, you will not be disappointed.

LOL cheers mate Im sure Ill love it! Come to think of it, I did just buy a car Ive never seen let alone driven!

"Youre such a loser!"
