this car has catcams in it too, although i forget which (they're the one's that apparently don't work with a fly by wire TB)

aye read your whole thread.
Same cam's mine has the 208bhp kit on it. going to run standard cams and see if that makes a difference, if it does then i'm, getting the cams checked for 'trueness'

if not pull the head off. I hate cars :(

shame to hear this mate but i do not get it. if its big ends there must be a reason why this happened??? lack of oil, poor oil, no oil pressure etc etc. hope it gets sorted soon fella

in theory there is.

the oil was good. how ever when i took the oil cap off and had a sniff to see if it had got hot it stank of fuel. maybe a problem with leak down past the rings?

i had a problem that sounded like that on my turbo'd corsa, i thought it wa bigends but stripped it down to find part of the metal sealing ring of the headgasket ontop of the piston hitting the head creating the noise took me ages to find it and i was amazed as to how a small piece made such a noise

Had an identical noise on a c16se Vauxhall engine. Changed oil pump, head, lifters, cam, big end shells, alternator, water pump, tensioners EVERYTHING. Pulled the engine out and stripped the block and found masses of play in the little ends on the gudgeon pin.

I was gunning it in 4th, slowed down and it was rattling. Same situation.

update:

Heads off.
There was bits of ally from somehere sitting on one of the flat pieces of the head, yet to find where its from, looks like a bit of head casting tbh.

Its fucked the bottom end though as the heads off and its still hard to turn over. but is this a sign of pinking on the pistons?:

update.

i believe i've found the cause of the bottom end failure.

The oil seal on the inlet cam has broken up and i would have thought that'll be the cause of the oil on the cambelt.

would this have caused any damage to the dephaser?

Then whilst trying to get it to tdc i noticed that one of the con rods must have been bent as it didn't raise as much as no.3

Exactly, the little end of the rod will be moving around on it like a ho. EXACTLY the same as what I did to my Corsa!
