Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

I've never bought a car expecting it to be an investment, depreciation boo fvcking hoo get over it. Buy something with a long waiting list and sell it straight away if you want to make money on one.

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Peugeot 306, bought for £3k, spent 5k on lots of mods and repairs, written off for £2500, 3 years later..... Minus 5.5k

Corsa GSi, Bought for 2.3k, spend about 1k mods/repairs, sold for £1700 6 months later - minus 1.5k

Peugeot 306 Cabriolet, bought for 8k, kept it standard, written off 3 years later after 30,000 miles trouble free motoring for £5300 - minus 2.7k

So I've "lost" 5.5+1.5+2.7 = £9,700 in around 8 years.

But all of it is not lost, as a lot is depreceation, and you've got to get about too! but i learnt after the Corsa not to mod any more, as that causes more expenditure for which you are unlikely to see any return.

And now theres the 172, bought for 6k, not planning on selling it yet!

Oh and neither of the write-offs were my fault!!!

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Bought my old Clio 182 for £11k from a dealer.

2 years down the line part exchanged it for the R32 for £5725.

Love French depreciations, thats why I went German with the next car!

Fiesta - bought for £3,300, sold 1.5 years later for £2,500. Loss of £800.

Clio - bought for £6,000, sold 3.5 years later for £3,200. Loss of £2,800.

Nothing too painful I guess.

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Normally make money on my cars.

106 gti bought it for £2400 did 30k in 2 years sold it for 3k

106 rallye bought for £1260 sold for £2k

106 rallye s2 bought for £2k sold for £3500

306 gti6 bought for £200 sold for £2250

I have generally been lucky and bought cars which need a slight tidy up and make them mint so get top money

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Bought my 1.2 Dynamique 6 months ago for £3200.

If I went to sell it now I'd want £4000 private. And if my local Arnold Clark had it on there forecourt it would be up for £4500+ all day long.

Bought Fiat 127 (1978 T Plate) £100 spent about £400 quid on it sold for £300 after 6 months = £200 loss

£100 for 1984 A Plate Escort used for about 6 months never spent anything on it got about £20 scrap = £80 loss

£1750 for Opel Manta GTE, spent about £1000 on it and sold for about £1200 18 months later = £1550 loss

£3295 Sierra GLSi run for about 3 years approx £1000 in mods/bills, sold for £700 after 3 years = £3595 loss

£6000 Vauxhall Calibra 16v, approx £1500 in repairs mods, sold for £1750 after 3 years = £5750 loss

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Brought a Mini Cooper S works in Jan last year, £12,5000, got banned in Feb for 9 months, was partly on finance so advsrtised it, with it being just after xmas, wouldnt sell for s**t, ended up selling it back to a dealer for £8700, thats a £3,800 loss in 1 month :dapprove:

Although i had a corsa that i spent £3k on and sold for £2k, i then had a Lupo Gti that i paid £6500 for 3 years ago that i traded in for th Mini for £5k.

I then got a brabus roadster after the 9month ban, paid £9K, sold after 2months as got bored of it, sold for £8700.

Brought MG ZR untill i found a decent 182, paid £3900, traded in after 6 months for the clio last week £2700. Paid £7k for the 182 with 10,000 miles....

Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?

Truely would hate to add it all up, last 3 cars though.
Seat Leon Cupra R, bought new for £16,750 sold 12 months 14,000 miles £16,500
Mercedes ML 270CDI, paid £42,000, sold 12 months 12,000 miles £27,000

BMW E60 530D, Paid £29,000 sold 25 months 4,000 miles £16,250

Had the 182 12 months and not planning a sale yet, would sell the Zafira tough as it's the worst most unreliable car I've ever had but it's probably worthless now and stands me at £16,000

Think of it another way. You buy a car for £12,000. You keep it for 3 years and sell it for £8,000. The car has cost you £4,000! £4k for a £12k car? Bargain.

Dont have much to show when you get back other than a tan for a week though :rasp:
