Clio 182
Help!
My friend has recently purchased an MX5, it's a MKII 1.8 Icon, with 140bhp and a 6 speed Manual gearbox.
On paper it's a walkover.
But I cannot shift him.
I have a low mileage 182 FF with both cup packs and in a straight line there is really not much in it, I don't start to gain any ground until we reach serious license loosing jail time speeds. We haven't really explored corners yet as the car is new to him and he's still finding his feet but I feel it will probably be much of the same.
But the fact that I can't shift him on a straight section does worry and puzzle me, I know the clios are no straight line hero's but it's binned off a lot more "powerful" cars than his. I know we're around the same weight but he has a serious power deficit and is a whole second on the official 0-60 sprint slower.
Why can't I move him? Is there a chance I'm down on power or is that just the way it is seeing as he has a 6 speed box? It's a puzzle both of us can't get our heads around, and anybody we've spoke to about it.
As a comparison, I have had a little fun with a guy from work on the way home occasionally and he owns a clio 200, and we seem quite evenly matched, I'd go as far as to say my little 182 has the edge.
if anyone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated, apologies for the wordy post.
