Brake calipers always sticking

  Renault Clio 172 Ph1
Hi,

can someone help me, if i dont use my car for a couple of days my brakes always stick and I think that my handbrake doesn't release properly. I have had it to a garage a few times and everytime it's the same, calipers won't release, so they prise them and re-grease them and it works as normal but if I don't drive it for a few days they become stuck again. Do you have any suggestions. My car is a Clio Mk2 Ph1 172. Thanks.:(

Most cars do it on the rear. Park with the handbrake off and leave it in gear.

as said, fairly common with this type of caliper but it's not really something you should put up with for long as you'll wear the pads down v quickly and might even have problems with the heat they'll generate if they're binding badly

couple of things you could try doing (sounds as though the garage have already had a go) - ensure the handbrake arm is free to move through all of its travel and is clean and greased (need to get inside the rubber boot to do this); and ensure the piston's free - use penetrating fluid; wind the piston in and carefully pump it out again; repeat until it's easy and smooth. then just gives the brakes an ocassional work out - the rears don't do much, which is why the pistons can become sticky after a while

It's not the calipers that are sticking...it's the discs and pads rusting and sticking together.

Had it on mine since new - apart from having to break the binds between the discs and pads when I pull away, all other aspects of the brakes function 100%.

I've covered 106k miles in mine, and I've never had to strip/clean any caliper.
