Brake Fault light

H

HickiN

All,

I was at knockhill recently.... and when i left the track and pulled over to fill up with fuel..

It came up on the dash 'Brake fault'.... my brakes seemed to work fine and the fault went away... thought nothing more of it!

Then the odd time (3x now), this fault has came back on again, telling me to pull over immdiately.... it seems to be when i am travelling over 100miles (on journey ABZ > NCL).... not when i am harsh braking etc.

Is this some sort of sensor fault? or could there actually be a ''dangerous'' fault....

I'll probably end up taking the car to the garage for a once over as i have only had it now for 3 months give or take..

Just wondered if anyone knew of any known problems/faults?

Cheers

Has any work been done on the brake circuit recently? What's the fluid level like?

I've seen this message appear on the Clio III several times and in all cases its been because an air bubble has hit the ABS module and whilst it doesn't stop the ABS or conventional brakes working its bloody annoying as you get a continuous "beeeeeeeeeep" followed by the annoying message that strikes the fear of God into you. Normally its due to incorrect bleeding of the brakes and allowing the fluid in the reservoir to run low whilst pumping the pedal but if you've got a low fluid level, a session hooning around track could achieve the same result.

The cure is simple but NEEDS to be done on CLIP as the ABS module needs to have the air purge modulation program run and to my knowledge no generic diagnostic kit such as SnapOn can run this command yet but I'm sure they'll update the software to do so sometime this year.
