Brake light "on" point

Sorry if this is in the wrong place - mods please move if it is.

Noticed that I have to press the brake pedal quite hard for the brake lights to come on. I can drive in slow moving traffic and as you only have to lightly touch the pedal the lights don't even come on a lot of the time - something that worries me in traffic with all the numpties about... Is there any way (even if it's a garage-job) that the sensitivity or the switch point at which the lights come on can be changed??

The brake pedal switch can be adjusted yes but it's a bit fiddley. Dealers often do them free as it's a 5 min job if you know what you're doing.

Hmm... took it into a local garage I know (not dealer or specialist but usually very good) today and they had a look and explained how it all works etc, but that on my car it wasn't possible to adjust it at all, apparently it's fixed? Is that right?

It can come losse and need cliping in.

My old car was like that, was handy for slowing down when u had someone up ur ass, they didn't realise then had to slam on :D

Hmm I didn't think the switch was adjustable? I've had 3 now any they've all been the same with the "late" brake light.

Aye, mine is a late brake late. Pissed me right off when I had to change the bulb, and was trying to test it.

I heard that the 'plunger' on the switch can be removed and reset, but I've never actually done it so may be wrong.

Well I took it to Carlton garage today where Alex worked his magic and it's much better now :) No idea what he did though...
