Brake Problem

Hi. I have just fitted some ktec kevlar pads to the front brakes on my 172 mk1 & was gonna replace the rear ones as well when I noticed that the rear pads had only worn on one end of the pad & not evenly accross the whole face.

Are my rear callipers/pistons knackered or can they be adjusted for even pad wear?

The calipers may need oiling or adjusting.

Get a Haynes manaul of the car itshould tell you how to check them.

Make sure it covers 2 litre models though as they arnt covered in the normal Clio book unfortunatly.

Sounds like the caliper guide bolt(s) wasnt lubricated properly. If the caliper doesnt slide on the bolt(s) easily that would be it..and you will need to replace them. Unless you know what i am on about take it to Renault.

The bolts. No idea on costs, sorry. I expect the labour will be the cost as theyll faff around for an hour doing it at a garage.

why dont u buy your new rear pads

remove the old ones give the caliper a good clean and wd around the piston and the sliders then refit with your new ktec pads

and it should be ok

already been sugested.

Check if the guides slide easily, if not lube them with copper or high temp grease. If they are corroded and not smooth and dont clean up well with a wide brush drill attatchment then a new repair kit from ren is 37.70 + VAT per caliper.

YOU SHOULD NOT USE COPPER GREASE ON BRAKES AROUND RUBBER PARTS AS IT SWELLS THE RUBBER AND CAUSES THE RUBBERS TO BRAKE DOWN . YOU SHOULD USE RED RUBBER GREASE
