Brake squeal... Normal???

  Cup 172
Right,
Upgraded my pads to Greenstuff at the weekend.
Outer pads went in okay, ones behind the disc took a tiny bit of filing. Got them in and made sure there was copper slip on the lugs. They went in, but didnt have as much movement as the outer ones.

Now they squeal when barking gently...

So... is this normal and will they improve when they bed into the disc?

Or... should I remove them and file away a bit more of the lugs?

Ta,
Phil

They should improve as they have a bedding-in compound on them. Mine did the same. However mine still squealed after 300 miles and took them back and it was found that the caliper was rubbing on the disk. Give it a couple of hundred miles though and they should be fine :)

hi there,
i got some greenstuffs a couple weeks ago. they squeeled loads to start with. after a few hundred miles they calmed down a bit.
what really seems to have made a difference is once you've ran them in a little, go for a drive, really working the brakes. Mine smelt quite bad after but the squeelings all but gone.
Dont know if thats a good idea or just co-incidence, but i'm happy with my brakes now. still get the odd squeak, but certainly less than when new.

i think i had done about 4 hundred before going for a thrash. should be about enough and the squeaking was just embarrassing

They are a metalic compound so will squeal a bit now and then anyways. I did about 350 miles before I really thrashed them. Very happy with them so far, better than standard.
