My bonnet release cable snapped yesterday so i took it up to my mechanics house and he had a play about with it, hes had to "brake into a bonnet" hundreds of times mostly on vauxhalls and says its easy but when it comes to the clio he just couldnt get into it!

any help or tips for him to save him stripping down the whole front end of the car since some of you may have done it before?

cheers

  Shhh
Hope its covered by warranty...

call Renault Assistance, let them deal with it..and get it into renault where they cut a hole in the bonnet..

Try doing a search mate, I remember seeing this come up in the past and iirc it's a bugger of a job on the clio.

where abouts has the cable snapped ?
if its snapped at the mechanism is hard you need to get a screw driver in there we do it from under the car and get your arm right up and release it if its snapped some where else you may be able to pull the cable and release it

it was starting to get dark so we never had time to work out where its snapped about, my mate had his hand up the bottom of the front bumper and actually had a hold of the cable but pulling it as hard as he could he couldnt get it to release? the cables in a rubber "sleve" is it not?

reach up underneath mate at the back of the rad is the best way. cant take the bumper of cos the grill is held underneath the bonnet.

My bet is the bonnet is being cut to access the lock...

The system was designed to not allow you easy access into the engine bay.

If the lock is faulty, the ONLY way to get to it is to take off the badge, to get to the screws that take off the bumper, so that you can drill into the lock to take it off. Renault know about the fault, and this happened to mine.

lol my mate sorted it today, took about 5 minutes total, 2 mins to get the bonnet open 5 mins to fit the new cable

he got his hand up behind the bumper with a screwdriver, pushed the bonnet release spring with the screwdriver and bonnet popped open.

so there was no need for a new bonnet to be bought, painted, fitted and no need for the lock to be drilled.
