BTB modded cat too small?

  172 Phase II
Got a BTB modded cat to go on my 172.

Have it under the car, new fitting kit fitted, but the two flanges don't come all the way together! I've got the nut at least as far on the bolt as the ones that I took off. Now there's about 1 cm gap between the flanges, can see the silver gasket sitting there.

So my question: how can I make it to fit neatly together?

I found this pic (not mine, but similar)

Thanks in advance for the help! In the meantime I'll stay inside so my balls don't freeze off..

if you mean the flexi joint, there's meant to be a gap of about 5mm. If there's no gap, the gasket is worn and needs replacing

You mean where the cat meets the manifold?

On the 182s, there's 'supposed' to be a gap. It's normal. You have to clamp it together using mole grips before screwing the nuts and bolts in sometimes though.

This may be different on a 172!

Aha! Didn't recall if there was a gap before but it seemed unnatural.. I guess it's alright then, I used a new (flexi) gasket so must be ok.

Also started the car and didn't hear any air escaping.

Thanks for your answers!
