Genuine question from a cleaning noob here...hand washed 2 cars on Sunday and enjoyed every minute of it for the first time ever :S

One bucket for your cleaning water, one bucket to rinse out your wash mitt so your not spreading the dirt over the car.

2 bucket is common.. Suds in one bucket, fresh clean water in another..

Dip mitt into suds buckets, wash panel, then rinse mitt in the 'rinse' bucket.. and repeat

Its a geek thing

You dip your mitt into clean water to rinse anything off it that might catch your paint..

I use a jay cloth and waterless wash! Reet results imo. I then hit it with colour magic and Turtle wax back to black!

i thought the 1234 methord was

rinse with hose/ jet wash to revome silt/ dirt
soup bucket
clean cucket
rinse again

Nope 4 bucket method, includes 2 further buckets for wheels and arches!

Thats what I do if I'm doing a proper job, if I'm being a lazy witch or can't find my 2nd bucket I just use one.

ah ok. I do that but just re-fill the first two buckets, lol.

Actually do sometimes have a third bucket though

Knowsit - though in most case it ends up the 12 bucket method here!

i use the 5 pounds and 2 insult method.

give my bosnian freinds at the car wash 5 pound insult them both and i get a clean car delivered back to me in a few minutes.. looking better than if i spend a whole weekend doing it

I cleaned the Focus today too, ran my hand over the bonnet afterwards and thought maybe I should get some clay, there was all sorts of crap all over it.
