buffing your car - does it permenantly remove, or just temporarily cover up?

for e.g, someone took my car through a car wash, it now has swirls that appear when the sun shines on it, Im going to get it buffed and polished to bring back the bright shiny look...

Just something ive been wondering, whats involved in it?

Are you smoothing the swirls off, so theyre gone for good or just covering them up with abrasives?

What I want to know is, If i get my car polished and buffed, will the swirls be gone forever or will they return after afew weeks, months.

Depends on the product and it's application. Some products are fillers to hide the swirls which can be applied by hand or PC and others are abrasive polishes which when used with a rotary or mop remove the swirled layer of paint.

No was the simple answer to your question. Swirls are inevitable...However how quickly they return is very much down to you.

Even if you wash as carefully as you can you will pick up the odd mark.

As Loony says there actual removal or hiding depends on the product.
