The M62 is being switched over to new traffic and speed camera controls where in cases of traffic the signs are set to tell people to use the hard shoulder if they are getting off at the next junction.....

Maybe the stretch of motorway the op was on has this system in place also?

Yeah, although those systems that let you use the hard shoulder are great at times.

They are mate, I appreciate how much they do cut traffic

I don't like the remotely adjustable speed cameras though tbh... Worry me too much while driving past them.... I get paranoid that they will change from 50-40 after I have come past the digital sign lol
