Cabasse

Hi

My car came with an aftermarket radio/CD

I think I have found the original Cabasse CD/Radio - and my question....

Am I correct in thinking that the radio display will appear on the dash where where the time/temp normally shows as the Cabasse does not have a display?

The current set-up is too fiddly to work on the move, wonder if the CD will play MP3? - car is reg. 2004, and no, I don't have the remote changer.

Correct, the radio station, cd track number etc will appear in the digital display on top of the dash!!

no mate they arent mp3 compatable, but buy a Parrot 9200 bluetooth kit, wires straight through your stereo and then phone calls, ipod music etc comes through your car speakers, i've got one fitted in mine its brilliant!!!

I have now fitted back in the old Cabasse Radio/CD, I guess it looks like something out of the 1970s but beneath that dull exterior is quite a good spec radio.
Somehow it looks right and I must say I like it and find it much easier to use than the blingy Sony it replaced.
Well there's no mod cons like MP3 and phone compatibility built-in, but what the heck.

I was wondering how many owners have stuck with their original Cabasse radio/cd?

I have the cabasse h/u and have fixed a Renault tunepoint in under the glove box. Plugs into where the cd changer lead goes and can have either phone/mp3 or usb memory stick in and still have all stalk control :)

Thanks Doc. The 'Tune Point' idea sounds very good and would suite my needs although it's a bit pricey at £180+.

I feel a christmas present coming on.....

Howeve on the Renault site it says; "It should be noted that it is not compatible with vehicles equipped with Cabasse radio CD players or a CD changer"

Does this mean what it says, or what?

Pretty sure a tunepoint will work with a Cabasse but it wont work with a CD changer as it uses the CD changer socket to plug into.

If you don't want to fork out £180 for a tunepoint the connect 2 is a good option. As above you can connect an ipod / iphone and use the controls on the radio/steering wheels controls to change track / volume etc it will also charge your phone / ipod aswell.

These cost about £60 and take about 10 minutes to fit.

As above, the tunepoint will connect into cd changer port and replaces it as such. It is pricey at £180+ but I bought mine off a member off here for £60 delivered. They come up for sale every now and again on here or eBay.

But like said above connect 2 does the same thing, just isn't a Renault part. That would be my choice, if the tunepoint isn't available. I think mt audio on here does them, but I'm not certain.

Thanks for all the feedback, at first I found the Connects2 only having an ipod port which I don't use/need, but then found another one does have a USB and a SD port which would probably do the job - this looks like a good alternative to the expensive Tunepoint, I'm in no hurry so may look around for a used one or maybe ask Santa.
Everything I am likely to want to listen to will fit onto a 2GB card/stick, so I'd be happy with that.
So how does the column switch change folders/tracks or do you still need to do this on the head?

Depending on how much these aux-in options come out at, you may want to consider just getting a less chav aftermarket HU
