Cam Time!

  Cammed 182 :)
Hi,

Im looking to get cams for the 182, looking for 428s so they can be run on standard management. I only seem to be able to find 2 different sets and places to purchase ie K-tech cat cams @ £700 or Engine Dynamics no brand specified @ £400. Does any one have any advice on what to go for or other places to buy other cams.

Cheers
Jonny.

There are plenty of other cam manufactures JMS were working on something. with C&B

Just a note dont forget to add a live remap to the cost when looking for cams. so +250 - 300 quid.

Yeah but I dont really got the budget for that mate. I have just got matched inlets, rs 192+decat , viper kit. already spent £££ I will be getting car mapped after cams fitted. Surely with all that plus 428s I would be looking at 190bhp+ fly?
Any help appreciated.

we're working on the C&B package. A map solution will be part of it, we've just not finalised it yet.

What's your budget for the cams alone? I've just had Schrick fitted to mine, they're available through Yozzasport but aren't cheap brand new.

Did you sort the problems you were having mate (steve was telling me yesterday, PM if you wish :) )

Not yet no Luke, hence I aren't posting any figures ;)
Will hopefully be sorted in the next week or so though.

Take the viper off mate. I saw a thread on here with dyno tests with viper and caf and viper with no caf. No caf was better but still lower than standard box. I had one and didn't notice any difference at all. Go for an itg panel filter! Seen gd results from them on here

Yes without a doubt Luke, lol! Just ask Carl ;)
Pulls like a train now after the live mapping :approve:

Jealous :( are you gonna trafford centre tomorrow? Im considering it... Thinking bodies personally... I will shut up now as this is technically spam :S

Sorry to hijack:)

well there's no released map for them at the moment, so until we're happy with a kit map you'll be going for custom mapping

Yeah but the place local to me doent have a r/road they map without it they do custom maps however would i have to adv the mapper the spec of the cams in order to map it properly?

Dyno mapping is the only way to go, that way you can see the gains too.

Luke - Not sure yet, depends but if I do you're welcome for a quick blast mate.

Avoid Scotland when it comes to mapping. Only get mapping on a Clio done at a specialist who knows these cars. Iv had my fingers burnt twice by general car mappers.

IMO i wouldnt bother with cams. Its sooo much work and expense for not that much gain unless its stage 1 of a future build. Save a little more for TB's would be a better start or save even further for a SC conversion.
If you stuck some light weight wheels on, light weight bucket seats and tore the interior out you'd see the same on the road results as cams

Whilst I agree, I think fitting CAMS is about more than just the peak figures.
For me anyway, it's more about the driveability of the car, whilst keeping it sane for a daily drive :)

My Cup is a good example of a very well running cam'd car , nice custom map by Fastchip.
C&B cams , matched inlets, 182 exhaust manifold + V6 airbox straight onto the TB. Made 170 at the wheels which is/feels quite awesome. Throw 15% transmission loss into the equation and it's 195 at the fly

graph shown here. Do'nt care to much about this but it's funny to see a 172 making the same power (actually a little more) as a 197

I'll shut up about the C&B's now for a while..

this.

Some of the cams we have been working with lift the torque figure from as low as 3k by 15+ lb/ft, and then the peak figure by around 5-6 lb/ft. What that gives you is a very quick car with excellent power delivery. No need to chase the limiter to screw every ounce of go from the car.

Exactly but the problem is folk make the mistake of looking for peak gains without realising what you gain at one end you rob at the other and if you want a good all rounder then your running pretty mild at peak

I have made my mind up to get the cams mate im am also stipping out rear it should be close to 200bhp per ton which isnt too shabby.
Which mappers have you tried? Because I will definetly need to map it. Surely a N/a map istn that complex with ignition advance and fuelling the only thing you can change?

Good few years back this but Dastek was the first and a little known mapper just over the border. Wont go into details but id a been better sticking the cash straight down the bog then at least it would have saved on petrol money :dead:

You wont go wrong with RS Tuning and probably the nearest specialist for Scotland. Well worth the trip imo and experience
