I'm based in Suffolk

Thanks

Valves bend? There is a technical note floating around here that states that the valves must be exchanged whether they are bend or not...

Valves will have bent... sorry, I don't do loaning of my tools as they always get mistreated/misused.

Yeh im assuming some of the valves will have bent...but im not sure how many. As it happened when idling I may be lucky, but probably not! Im going to take the head off this weekend to see the damage.

Even at idle speed the crank is pushing the pistons up and down over 800 times a minute and the valves are double that - It will have bent some of them and they may not be overly obvious when closed so pull the head and open each valve to see the stems and if there are any signs of damage replace it. There's nothing worse than replacing say 8 valves and then procedd to rebuild the top end to find you needed to replace 10 of them resulting in either no or very low compression on one cylinder or more. Total waste of time, effort and most importantly, money as the head gasket is scrap along with the fluids you put in and even the head bolts.

Nick Hill once gave me two pieces of advice... I pass them on to you now:
  1. NEVER do a job that isn't worth your while doing.
  2. If it is worth your while, do it right first time - everytime!

Thanks for the advice Mick, I will take that onboard! I don't want to do the same job twice so im going to take it nice and slow, check and double check everything. I hopefully will do it right first time !! :D
