Cambelt/Aux Belt

  EP3 Civic Type R
I know cambelt is a 'better safe than sorry' job but it's also an expensive one.

I know Aux belt should be changed at 36k, mines just passed that and I'm going to get it booked in next week, but when is 'recommended' to get the cambelt done, as I've had some very mixed opinions!

It's a 52 plate, 172 cup, with 37k miles.

I know this questions been asked so many times, but there are so many different answers, so I apologise for re-asking!

Cheers,
Mish

Cambelt should have been done last year, and it should be coming up to needing it's 2nd aux belt.

I'd get the cambelt done as its way overdue on age. Mines 4 years old now and I'm doing mine tomorrow as I daredent leave it any longer, very much a case of better safe than sorry.

It's had one aux belt... I've checked the service history. Been quoted £330 for the cambelt to be done at the garage I always use, which is obviously very good and cheaper and less messy than a mashed up engine, so think I'll book her in for next week :)

i don't think your "garage you always use" as you put it quite know what they're letting themselves in for

do they have the special renault locking tools????

Fred, I know you know your stuff, but they are fine. They've worked on plenty of 172's before with no problems. Both myself and 2 local lads use them for any work... one of which had his 182 cambelt done last year with no probs. They are all compitent, have all the right tools for the job and unlike most garages I trust them with my car. It's only the same as any other person on here taking it to a non-dealership/Reno specialist (in my humble opinion) :)

Quote was originally a rough one for cambelt alone, but I'm getting aux done as well because as people have said, I may as well- it's going in next week.

Many thanks for the replies/advice folk.
