cambelt change on valver :(

booked my clio in to get a cam belt change , it went in last sat and he couldnt tell me the price as he knew there was lots of work but didnt know how long, i went back to day to pick the car up, to find it still only stripped down

he then says, weve got a new belt but the belt has been replaced b4, and looks fine and very new, but the car wqas struggling to start and it looks like the belt isnt timed up properly, really slack, he then says i can take the car and not pay if i dont put a new belt on! but i want it doing so hes waited a week tell me that

hes advised me 2 get my cam cover gasket etc done, and re sealed, bottom half of the cam bits

does any one know what sort of bill i should expect?, i dont really earn a lot of money! lol

hopefully once this is done i might get a few miles of happy motoring, as iv repalced quite alot of stuff!

According to the guy I took my car to, he recons its an 8 hour job to do the cam belt.

Not quite sure about the other bits hes mentioned, the rocker cover gasket, you could do yourself. The gasketll set you back about £25 from Renault and you can do it in around 30mins.

The guy at the garage that I took my car to, changed the cam belt and fan belt for £140 cash, He even gave me the old belts back as proof. He also had lots of plasters on his hands and never to come back. LOL

I had both my belts changed at 70k only cost me £130 i got a qoute from reno and they said about £300+!!!!!

Thing is now though i get this squeeling every now and then which i understand is the bearing in the tensioner so you might want to replace that too.......

im hoping its not going to cost to much, should i be getting the fan belt changed 2? what happenis if this goes?
