Cambelt change on Wednesday!

Finally getting my cambelt changed on wednesday and I cant wait! Money has been abit tight recently so have been putting it back which has been stupid of me. Clio is on a 55 plate and has done 54,000 so im really pushing my luck tbh. Will I notice any improvement in the car after its been done, or none at all?

Seriously, you will notice an improvemnt. I certainly did.

Also, more importantly, youll have the piece of mind that it has been done.

Cheers Ben, and Rob my uncle is doing it who is a fully qualified mechanic who specialises in Renault and yes he does have all the right tools! Ive heard so many horror stories about people taking it to normal mechanics and not specialists who dont own the right equipment for the job!

I still wouldnt take it to him.....- Half the bodge jobs that get reported on here- come from fully qualified mechanics....

Lets hope his list of tools doesnt include tipex for the timing

Plus by the time you have paid for both kits- assuming hes changing them then the difference is peanuts- I wonder if he will be checking the dephaser pulley as well?

I don't see how you can possibly notice an improvement from just a cambelt change

its just as possibe as a mechanic getting it slightly wrong! over time belts do stretch etc

It does happen. One of my old nissans had the timing mark on the wrong tooth, so it was always a tooth out. Took me months to work that one out. I've changed belts that haven't been removed since the factory, and sometimes they're miles out, sometimes perfect.

some are scary quick, others on the book, others so down its comical... crisp packets in doors and putting windows on with cigs in their mouths.

The point is doing the cambelt is general maintenance and 99.9% of cars that get it done there won't be noticable difference. It just gives peace of mind. It's not like its a performance upgrade....

I'd like to see your research figures that show 99.9% of cars are timed properly from the factory.

Bottom line is if the timing is out slightly, and engine will not perform to its full capacity.

Oh come on... now your been daft. Engines do have to be made within certain tolerances. Yes a few might slip the net but come on.

yes - i agree, but its not as un-common as you think. plus timing can deteriorate (sp?) over time

I DEFINITELY did notice a difference. It wasnt a mental thing. Of course a newer, tauter belt is going to make a difference...surely.

Anyway...listen to the guys on here, they talk loads of sense. Oh and i drove down Birchdown in Malpas all the way from Aberdeen and it was a VERY smart move i feel.
