Cambelt change- what else?

  Clio Trophy
Trophy is due its second cambelt in my ownership in the next month. What else should I get replaced that may be original that can only be done when the cambelt is coming off?

The dephaser and water pump were already replaced last time at 10 years old and were fine so that's 2 things I won't be doing.

Camshaft seals is one I've heard mentioned before.

The usual is just the crank bolt, dephaser, cam seals, cam seals are a must really, and come in a pack with new nuts and bolts for the pulleys

Water pump can be done without touching the cambelt anyway so that's not an issue.

Perhaps worth resealing the rocker cover, seems to be a common area for leaking and can only be done with the belt off

Could also upgrade the cambelt bottom sprocket to a megane one as it's keyed and less likely to slip

Dephaser a must every 5 years? Is that not a bit excessive?

The dephaser I had replaced in 2015 was original as far as I'm aware and there wasn't anything obviously wrong with it.

Crank bolt, dephaser, cambelt, waterpump, tensioner, cam caps, cam seals, aux tensioner, oil and filter and aux belt

Good practice would be to check crank seal, damper pulley for delamimination of the rubber, replace the exhaust cam pulley for a lighter one from a Megane 225, replace the crank pulley for a keyed Megane 225 pulley, clean down the cambelt side of the block and head whilst everything is off, check for weeping around the rocker cover and look at the sump gasket for weeping too

You might as well do as much as possible whilst you're in there. Peace of mind stuff

Nah dephaser isn't a must but for the sake of 100 quid do you really want to take it all apart of it starts to rattle again in 12 months time?

If your doing the work yourself then I wouldn't bother, but for the amount of labour garages charge for the full job I wouldn't want to be paying it twice!

Perhaps I should have said anything other than what's covered in the cambelt and auxiliary belt kits as they're a given.

Dephaser looks more like around £150 from what I can see and when you start adding it up along with other bits and bobs getting done at the same time you're into £750 before you know it in January.

I just wonder how overplayed the issue is if the original can do almost 80k miles in 10 years and not rattle? Likewise the water pump? Curious as to how common any real issues are in that sort of mileage/time frame, I'm all too aware of forums becoming a bit of an echo chamber for known faults and their frequency.

I've spent thousands in what's turned out to be fairly unnecessary preventative maintenance over the years on different cars, there's a balance to be had for sure.

Also, why oil and filter?

Car only just got serviced in October.

Cheers for those links but I suspect if I want to have any cover with the specialist should anything happen they would need to supply the parts themselves.

As far as I know from the history of my X plate Clio 172 ph1 it’s on the original dephaser pulley.
No mention of it being replaced in the two belt changes it’s had.

However I will be changing it this year.
