Cambelt Change

  Clio 182 FF
My car is on a 55 plate with 52,500 miles on the clock with no cambelt change as of yet. Would it be wise of me to get this done as soon as possible?

Is there any visual signs to see if the belt has been changed?

There's nothing in my service book to say it has but all services are stamped.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..

I would guess if no receipt mate, it hasn't been done. Meaning you need to be spending some money pronto...

go to a trusted specialist, end of story, regardless if its 5miles or 500miles

going to a normal garage with an RS is asking for trouble! (i see the fruits of other idiot mechanics **** ups daily)

i've had mine done before at this place on my last ph1. they did it on 72k and i sold it at 110k with no problems. ERS (Engine Repair Specialists) in Burscough. They've got all the Renault tools. They rebuilt my mates engine on his R5 GT turbo years ago aswell.

but surely the 38k trouble free miles on my last ph1 is testament to them doing it properly?

not always, the timing could be out and you never noticed! sounds daft but i drove a phs1 172 with cira 150bhp at fly (didn't know this at the time and that's coming from me "mr expert" alledgely ;)) granted i proceeded to overtake a gallardo superleggera round the outside, in the wet at oulton park LOL turned out the CAT had collapsed!

but as you say they maybe bob on, this is the problem! Luck plays its hand a bit, but to be "safe" go to someone with a good reputation who backs up the work they do without quibble - safest option!
