Have you got a good quote from anywhere for parts/doing the job?

Priced mine yesterday - still in shock!

Matt code red every time. He's the man for these.

Matt seems very competent as well yes, another place you are in good hands im sure.

Although TBH, Im a computer programmer and motoring journalist by profession and yet I can still manage a 172/182 cambelt with the correct tools, so im sure that any of the specialists on here are all capable of doing it as well, its the sort of thing a lot of local garages get wrong as they wont understand the performance implications of the exact cam timing as thats so quirky to these cars and a few others, but any of the specialists who are used to working on these specific cars all the time should have no problem.

I'd give 519 a miss.. Had my car for 5weeks an still not done it plus he never answers phone like yesterday an today!

I dont think any of the specialists mentioned in this thread have more than 2 full time employees, so they are all going to occasionally suffer problems if they have someone off sick etc as unlike a main dealer they dont have staff to cover or that they can pull in from other branches etc, so while I feel sorry for you if 519 are messing you around at the moment, there might be a valid reason and it might be something that could equally effect any other small company as well?

Lol was waiting for a backup reply for 519...yes very true an no disrespect but was told it would be done today an for 519 have just disappeared not answering calls.. Booked the afternoon off work too.. . I hope he is ok!

I'd go here, as good as twotechs are, they're very expensive for what will be the same end product.

Indeed, the bottom line is its only actually possible to do the job spot on, you cant do any better than that, and Mike/James @ MWM in staines will do so for a decent price using all genuine renault parts and tools etc, its silly paying anymore than the small independents like them charge as no one can offer anything more on something as routine as a belt change anyway, they are more than capable of doing this job spot on.

Chip how much do the tools cost and where do you get them from? i was always under the impression that the tools were silly money ? i need to do the dephaser as well and i believe theres a different tool for this ? never had this 'special tool' problem with the old cars!

Tools are expensive, as is the dephaser itself. So expensive, it's almost always cheaper to pay someone to do it, unless you plan on owning the car for 10 years or can be bothered to buy and sell on etc.

I have a quote for £730 for getting the belts done including the dephaser & water pump (should it be needed)

What's your opinions on that?

There is a full set of tools, and a usable half set, Ive got the half set, so it locks the dephasor properly, and has the horseshoe and the pin for locking the crank, but I dont have the stuff that S&MWM do like the windback handle (I use a knuckle bar and socket) or the tools for pushing the seals in exactly the right distance (I tap gently in with a correct sized socket).

The full set makes the job a little quicker, but the part set is plenty.

Full set is best part of 300 quid IIRC, its only half that for what I have though.

p.s For the dephasor you just need a big (14mm iirc) allen key, for this I just bought an appropriate sized sump plug one.
