cambelt due soon

going to get my cambelt an aux belt done after xmas, only had my clio 2 months, so just wondering how much im looking to pay for this doing?

would it also be cheaper buying the belt kits from renault then my current garage to fit them?

I used a local Renault specialist last week

Cost me £392 for the parts and labour

Didnt do the water pump though as he said it was fine

Only get garages to chnage it if they have the tools and IMo have done them before.

Belts, tensioners and Aux belt are nearly £250 mr TeZ.

Then Labour..

Go price up at Reno what they charge, or do a search..

woop didnt see AUx aswell lol. My BAD. How much is the Aux belt then as the Cam is only about £100 odd.

Ive just priced it all up today, Aux belt is £20 iirc, then cambelt kit - £140 iirc, then pulleys and tensioners etc. ONe of them is £50 on its own, its cheaper if you buy Aux belt kit i think which includes pulleys.

I cant remember but Reno charge the Earth and then some..

yeah they do, best to know somone in parts and somone who is uber good mechanic , but yes get the kits as it works out cheaper iirc, i swear its not £140 tho russ.

The two litre engine is tough if properly maintained, the cam belt needs to be replaced every 72,000 miles or every 5 years whichever is the sooner. The auxiliary belt should also be replaced at the same time as it needs to be removed anyway to get to the cambelt. The aux belt costs 19pounds. The tensioners should also be replaced as failure of these items can be disastrous.

KTEC sell them for £120 on their site and they are cheaper than reno.

I have the renault prices in front of me for a 2001 172 :

Cambelt Kit : £131.48 plus vat
Aux belt kit ( full fat ) : £55.94 plus vat
Then theres the plugs for the back of the head, approx £15

So thats 235.21 for the parts! and its about 6 hours book time isnt it for a belt, so at my old place (renault) that would have been £395 labour

So thats at least £630! crikey!
