Floating pulley, specialist cam locking tools and a load of other stuff I don't understand.
Basically, a specialist will charge you no more than a general mechanic, but at least you know it will be done properly. ie they will change cambelt and kit, aux belt and kit.
If you take it to Jonny Spanners and his sockets of steel, whats to say he only changes the belt? Then 3 weeks later the tensioner snaps and you're in a whole world of s**t.
Its the way its done, if its done the 'traditional' way, the second you wind it round its out of time.
And IIRC the reason so many dealers get it wrong is that the renault workshop guide has been badly translated from french to english and misses out a vital step.
There's quite a few cases where people have had their belts changed by various mechanics and mates and local garages etc, they've been done wrong and snapped.
As Daniel said, they're the same price, so take it to a specialist.
