Evening,
My cambelt is well overdue now. Car is a 2001 with 51k on the clock, so should have been done a year ago in theory.
A friend of mines dad used to be a mechanic for Renault and has offered to do this for me. My mate/his son has a 52 reg laguna with 146k on the clock (aswell as an elise) and his old man has done all the work on that for him since ~100k.
I'm almost certainly going to take him up on it, as I think he's after roughly £100 plus the cost of the belt/tensioner kit. This is way less than some prices I have read on here.
Are there any disadvantages to going down this route? Apart from not having an official stamp in the service book, will all be good if I get the receipt off him for the belt kit?
My car isn't due a service at the moment (apart from the belt!), but what else would be worth doing at the same time?
They also said not to bother doing the aux belt as it only runs the air con/alternator (?) and no damage would be done should this snap. True?
Any pointers appreciated, and I realise I should have had it done before now!
Cheers,
Chris
