Cambelt Replacement in Coventry or Warwickshire

  Clio
You obviously all have a bee in your bonnet.

I shall keep it simple and hopefully that might work.................

I had a 1992 honda civic, that cost me £200 for the cam belt at a MAIN Honda dealer

I now have a 2002 Renault Clio, and was asking how much it cost to do the same. Not had chance to ask a Renault dealer yet.

Then you lot told me it cost more than twice and I simply asked why there is such a difference in the price. i.e. more than double

So, why the difference in price then?

Jesus, you lot calm down ! its a simple question requiring a simple answer (without attitude, please)

Are you stupid simple question? why compare 2 completely different cars theres nothing the same between the 2, the simple answer is you need a CAM AND AUX CHANGE

I can understand why he is asking, different car or not.
To any person not knowing what is involved,it does seem stupidly expensive.
But that is the price I'm afraid.
No point in just changing the cam belt, because if anything else goes it will all need changing again,so while it's all apart it's best to do the lot,as said before it's a 6hour job and a real pain.
Hope this helps,so please take this onboard.

Aux belt is on the service schedule, it's 36k or 5 years, whichever comes first.

Some prices on here, another good sepcialist, I personally wouldn't go to Renault.

IIRC the aux belt comes off when doing the cambelt anyway, so has to be changed?

The simple truth is every car's different and if you want to look after your car then it needs doing properly, I can understand where you're coming from but if you want a cambelt changed on your Renault then that is what you have to pay. No point spending about £300 just for the cambelt, then the next week the aux belt goes and you need it all done again then you're over a grand out of pocket.

just to confuse matters even more, its actually cheaper to do a cambelt on a ferrari than a clio (seriously!)

The Civic belt change is a stupidly simple job in comparison to the Clio II 2.0 16v hence its £200 Vs £450-650. Its just another example that makes people think Renaults are poorly designed when they're anything but... they just need some serious TLC every 5 yrs which isn't bad really as they don't tend to get much in the way of real maintenence.

Auxbelt tensioner and pully are serviceable items. Its a 6 hours job which requires specialist tools.

Dephaser pully controls the VVT and we recommend you change it, they can start to rattle and make your car sound like a diesel. When they get really bad they can throw off the timing.

Meh not like I said earlier. Anyway Im out.
