Cambelt snapped

Car  Suzuki Swift Sport
Currently sitting in my car waiting for RAC recovery.

90% sure cambelt just gone. Pretty unsure where to go from here.

Thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has had this happened. Engine rebuild? Claim on insurance?

Thanks

My cambelt tensioner broke, I knackered 8 valves, got it all fixed for £400. How fast were you going?

Post just disappeared!

High rpm, doing around 70mph.

Belt flew out under car, aux belt still attached (but almost broke too).

Massive engine noise, sounds like a diesel, low power.

Cambelt and dephaser 'apparently' changed 14k miles ago. No fitting receipt, only receipt for parts (lesson firmly learnt)

Happened to me going about 30 all valves bent your looking at circa £1500 bill to fix. Better to get a second hand engine.

Oh dear, could've done a lot of damage at that speed, I'd agree with the 2nd hand engine option.

Thanks for the replies.

I think we can safely say I'm in a s**t situation.

Happens to the best of us and all that...

This makes no sense. If the belt flew out under the car (I'm assuming you mean cambelt as you have said aux belt is still in place), then how do you know it sounds like a diesel and its low on power?! It wont run without a cambelt!

if the cambelt snapped the car wont run at all. I agree with Dan that timings jumped. Or you have blown a plug, or dropped a valve.

Just an update. Car is back now, spot on Dan and The Fatty. Cambelt slipped and has damaged internals for one or maybe two cylinders. The suspect item that I saw in my rear view may have caused the damage as there doesn't seem to be anything missing from the engine bay. Guess I'll never know!

Battery went flat weirdly which is why it wouldn't start.

Based south Wales. Ammanford. Million miles from anywhere - will be on the phone tomorrow getting quotes. How much would I be looking at? Or is it hard to tell without taking it apart?

Cheaper to stick a donor engine in mate. prob £350 for a decent one then get belts and pully done

Thanks for the offer. I'll let you know the prognosis.

It's a 172 cup. Had a 200 before.

I'm gonna make some calls tomorrow and go over my options.

I'll be your nearest specialist then, give me a call and we can discuss your options and potential costs.
