Cambelt - Tools - Desperate Help!!!!!!

  No more clio's for me!
Hi All,

Had my car booked in today for a cambelt change, with an independent garage, car was all set for the change, got the kit, car in pieces. Then the sh*te hit the fan...(bare with my technical description, what i know about engines isn't much!!) on the back of (or some where on) the tension spring for the aux belt is some kind of 'thing' which requires a renault tool to remove, according to all sources this tool is not on general sale and the 'thing' can only be removed at renault dealers!!! Because you can't get the 'thing' off, you can't get to the cambelt!!! So instead of costing £145 fully fitted its gonna cost £350 at Renault!!!!

Any ideas??

If your talking about the spring at the front of the drivers side, infront of the engine, then this happened to me too.

Had a mobile renualt specialist come do my cambelt, but he had never done one on a 172. Took most of the day with me helping him.

Back to the problem, if this is what you are talking about, then the way we got round it (compressing the spring) was a make shift of diff tools, you need a socket like a drain plug socket, has like niblet on the end (I think a 1/2" to 3/4" socket bit will do it). But invloved some bars , hammer and me basically pulling all my mate on the bar.
