I'm over careful, i've had 2 cambelts in 16 months.

mines been on for 10,000mls its 5yr old im taking it off to do the dephaser 2moz and putting a new 1 back on

I know a 6 1/2 year old 172 that's only just had it's cambelt changed.

They'll last forever really.

But if it was me, I'd change it.

The people that have them go, always seem to have just gone over the 5 years then..... bang

Ill see what my dad can do hes a mechanic so if hes up for doin it then that be ok if not ill take the risk.

went in to renault last week and they said 5 years or 72k it going to be 5 years in july for my Cup its just finding the £100 to get it done.

I know but my dads a sprayer and knows loads of people the guy who is doin it. is doin my cambelt and my dads doin some spraying for him on a car all iv got to pay for is the parts like you said £136 so pretty lucky

I've just done mine at 4yrs/35k and didn't want to leave it any longer. Better safe than sorry with this sort of thing imo. £100 is bargaintastic, is a bit of a pig of a job so 100% wants the proper locking tools and ideally someone famailar with the procedure on the modern twin cam renault engines.

But mostely the fun comes from the complete absence of any working room at all.

s**t, mines an 03. 48k miles. guess thats 5 years up. Will tell my mum tomorro see what she saids. just looked through the service book. dosent seem to have had a cambelt change.

How much do you think it should cost to get the cambelt and auxbelt changed?

There's been an awful lot of threads on here about cambelts.

Considering the price of a replacing the belt, does anyone do a chain conversion, and if not, why not?

1 reason........Cost.

Making up toothed drive system, guides and tensioners, it has to be enclosed and oiled. Belts are better, its really not that big a job.

jesus christ behave! do you use a fork to butter your bread out of interest?
Careful fred, your obviously dealing with such a master mechanic here, can do the most difficult jobs standing on his head juggling with his feet ;).

I'd never leave it to chance, if that fails or even if the AUX belt fails and takes the cambelt with, will = big bucks, and the wallet feeling a LOT lighter
