Cambelt & Water Pump

Well my boyfriend is a mechanic and checked the book time seems the same - he didn't say anything about special renault tools tho - what exactly are the special renault tools needed Fred?

Thanks mate.

Need the cam locking tools

There is some for sale atm actually. I guess your BF has never done a 2.0 clio before?

You wont need to do the water pump though so don't worry about that (its actually run off the fanbelt)

Wrong - the water pump drives off the cambelt. Change it at the same time if you can afford it. The pump is about £45. If it goes then you will have to do the belt again !

Yes for most cars. Not in this case though :rasp:

I remeber Ben saying there was no need to bother with the water pump on these cars

oops - sorry guys.

i remember now i had my belt done at the same time as replacing the pump. the pump bearing failed and started to lose water. still worth doing while all the other gubbins are off if the car is an early 172.

hi Fred ;)

Sorry I made my b/f sound like a complete dick - of course he knows about the special cam locking tools he's done plenty before and just done the cambelt on the cabriolet - he just didn't feel the need to mention to me cos its not something I'd know about anyway.

WAiting to get the car still hopefully in the next 2 weeks - its gonna be tucked away in the garage until June 16th when I can insure it as I'm waiting for my current insurance bum rapers "adrian flux" to run out and go with elephant as AF want £750 TPFT when I'm 28 years old with 9 years no claims the gay lords!! (and I currently pay £270 TPFT on a 1.8 escort cabriolet!)

And thanks for the entertainment posts lol

Its nothing special, its fiddly as hell but nothing out of the ordinary. You can't go wrong as long as you've got the locking tools tbh. Took me about 7.5hours to do mine (first one i've done) that was for a full cambelt and auxbelt change along with all the idlers and tensioners.

The biggest problem is the lack of space, ratchet and cranked spanners are a must have as they're all you'll get in.

done my belts this morning 182 with aircon did both belt kits inc all tensioners etc it took me 5 hrs on the floor in my garage, as said a bit tricky getting your hands into places etc but easy job to do, you just need cam lockin tools and crank lock tool,

i would rather do these than the ones i do at work !!!

Thats pretty impressive, I'm not sure whether to do mine myself, I have a mate with some ramps at his work we can use, how much is the locking kit and what needs to be removed in order to do it? I was thinking the air con etc might need taking out! and where can you get a decent workshop manual with all the torque wrench settings etc?
