Never leave home without Electrical tape and a clear bin bag. All you need to waterproof.

Also got one of these lens pouches, really useful if you want to carry a couple of lenses/flashes/waterproof covers/cards etc.. Although you do look a bit of a dick.

is a ruksak the one to go for rather than like a man bag?

Its personal preference.

I have a slingshot at the moment, but its too small so going to donate it to my Dad and buy the flipside 300 I think.

*cough* Selling my two slingshot bags in the for sale section right now... *cough*

Seriously though, I do rate the slingshot bags. With them being single strap they can be tiring if you're planning on lugging several lenses over large distances but for your body and anything less than say 4 or 5 lenses (excluding large tele's obv) then they're ideal IMO. Main strength is the accessibility to your gear while still "wearing" the pack.

Possibly not the best for the accutely fashion conscious though... They're not hideous by any stretch but cool they are not.

  Cupra
Rucksack for taking kit along when snowboarding, mountain biking or going on holiday and the shoulder bag for day to day use when everything doesn't need to come along.
The rucksack is too tricky to get stuff out of quickly, but you don't have that problem with the slingshots.

Canon 18-55 IS 3.5-5.6
Canon 35-80mm 3.5-5.6
Canon 50mm 1.8 (Nifty Fifty ftw)
Canon 300mm F4 L

Hama Tripod

That might give you some ideas Gedde, I've accumulated this stuff over two years but every bit of it comes in handy every now and again!

Just purchased a Lowepro slingshot 202AW and it arrived today, have to say i'm impressed with it, quality is spot on , loads of pockets, and the velcro inside where you can move it about.

Just need search around more now for a tripod

Just starting out so:
Nikon D90
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens

Think my first buys will be bag and tripod then a bigger lens.

I think I need to get hold of a filter, where is the best place to buy these and should I be looking for anything in particular?

Don't bother with a UV filter, waste of money. Just look after your gear and you won't need one.

A circular polarising filter is a must (almost ;))

I can't open ebay links at work.

Just DO NOT buy cheap crap.

I've used non-authentic Nikon batteries in the past, no problems, but it's on your head.

Don't bother with the UV filter.

Yeah it's like a 5er. Am I better waiting till I have the cash for tiffen/hoya multi-coated one?

It's 55mm lens is there one you would recommend?

Think I might go Nikon for the battery. 1 spare should be enough for now.

p.s. thanks for advice Dan

If you plan on keeping that lens, or move to another lens with the same thread size, then get the best filter you can afford (or save up a bit).

You have to think a little into the future, as if you sell the lens, you're stuck with a filter, unless you sell it with the lens which can be more attractive to a buyer.

Hoya/Tiffen are good makes, can't really go wrong with them.

I've had a Hoya Pro-1 multi-coated UV filter attached to every lens I've bought before using it
- also regularly clean the lens and filter lightly with a lens spray & lens cloth (Spudz are awesome and handy to carry on the strap)

I need to invest in a few new filters soon. Going to spend wisely this time round as the cheaper one's I have are wearing a bit tired now.

I had a go of a Sigma 30mm this weekend, I liked that but I still want to get a 50mm prime and also a 10-20. I'm not sure whether its worth getting the 30mm or not as I have a 17-35 as it is.

  kwak ZX9R+golf gttdi
i had a nikon d3000 as a starter,also bought a canon 1000d,18-55mm kit lens and 17-50mm tamron f2.8
but just about to upgrade to a nikon d300.
unsure which 1st lens to buy for the d300 though,
will be taking pics of our new baby when he arrives and car/motorbike ect if anyone has any advice?
canon 1000d will be for sale soon if anyones after one btw.

Just picked up a vanguard alta something. It's AMAZING compared to my cheap velbon thing. Real quality :)

I'm a beginner - this all the stuff I got in my first round of purchases:

Canon 600D
18-55mm kit lens
UV filter
Polarised filter
Jessops Techno medium kit bag
Velbon tripod
Jessops tripod bag
SanDisk Extreme 8GB SD
Spare battery
Lens cleaning kit

I want a prime lens with a good aperture, but will hold off until I know more. I've also been told I may want a 300mm lens for track days... Again, I'll hold off until I have more experience.

Some of the bags posted here are awesome! I'll be on this when my kit grows.

Tom, get a 50mm f1.8, really good for little money, it'll probably help you understand aperture and depth of field a lot easier too.

Yeah I think he means the first one! Unless you are a high roller?

Very good cheap lens. Could prob find one a bit cheaper than from Jessops (Amazon maybe)
