can a 1.6 civic beat a 1*2 ?

  ibiza cupra
was having a tyre put on the other day and one of the young lads was admiring the 172 when he turned and said " i like these but they arnt that quick are they" so i said "they aint that bad, not the fastest car in the world but def not the slowest." then he said " my mate has got a 1.6 civic and has raced a few and non of them have ever managed to keep up with him. he just leaves them standing" so i said "thats strange because my mate has a civic type r and i can keep up with him pretty much till about 100" he then asked if id got anything done to it and i said "no just an exhaust and filter but not enough to make a huge difference" and he looked shooked. is he havin me on or do they genuinely "leave us standing" ? the impression i got was that the civic is standard as he didnt say it had anything done to it.

Another 1 of these threads, my mates car is faster than yours.../yawn

Take it with a pinch of salt mate, I know which I'd prefer.

If it's the 1.6 Type R EK9 it's not leave you for dead but it's be in front for sure! sub 6 seconds 0-60 and it'd murder a 1*2 in the bends as well!

Could have been talking about...EK9's is it? I really don't know anything about Hondas.

^ Ah, there ^

I'm a 1*2 lover btw!!! I just know those EK9's are awesome! 200bhp out of a 1.6 gets a bow from me!

I'd never own one though.

Theres a few other old civics apart from the EK9 that would see a 1*2 off, not by miles but they'd definately have you so its not the complete bulls**t you might think upon first hearing it.

Depends what 1.6 Civic. An EK9 Type R maybe, but a VTI/Jordan won't be leaving any RS's behind. EP Sports are even slower so can't be one of them.

Such as?

Only other quick Civic is a VTI... and that'd be slower that a 1*2.

hold on a sec, isnt the ek9 rated to about 180bhp? i do like them and probly get one at some point, but i think the vti would probly match the clio and the ek9 would edge the clio but not by much

1.8Vti = about 7.7 to 60, not as quick as a 1*2.

Also the Civic is 167Bhp.

EK9 won't murder a 172. Cars are close enough in ability that it ALL depends on the driver.

You mean 185bhp @ 8300rpm

Alot dont make book figures it has been known, the B16BR engine is sublime if thats what we are talking about

wasnt an ek9, as when i mentioned my mates type r he never said that his mates one was a type too.

I never said the EK9 would leave it on the straights, probably would in the bends thoguh... LSD makes a huge difference!

lol my mate used to have an ek9 and it was fast but my old 172 was quicker, over 80mph the 172 used to pull a considerable amount

i recon my standard 172 is quicker than one, not by much however

THe Race base version is (Merk, another member has one)

And the 5.7 to 60mph that often gets banded about was made by a 3 stone japanese man

lol years ago in my r5 gtt i had confrontation against a civic vti on a private road, the civic walked away from me but my car was full of meaty gits, in the civic there was 3 anorexic asian lads

you been blowing off a honda buff cos your facts are wrong!

its 180 bhp from a 1.6 and its not sub 6 seconds to 60

theyre slower than a EP3 (type r) and i can beat my mates one

That is fooking awful!

I don't mean to sound all figures and slower this slower that... I just appreciate the EK9 as it is a true drivers car.

i agree, no civic since has been as focused, the new type r aint considered to be a true type r which put me off getting one, hence i bought the trophy

A Civic VTi is 158bhp the same as the Civic Jordan.

They are Saxo VTS pace

Indeed !

They are definately slower than an EP3 Type R and we all know the 1*2 and the EP3 Type R are pretty damn similar.

You work it out.

a good b16 same as vti tuned or fiddle around with vtec will be quick, my mate had one in a integra but even he admited after he bought a 182 it was quicker.

guys trying to blow some steam cause hes got a honda thats all

ignore him as you fly past

Blimey - there's some interesting facts and figures being thrown around here... LOL!

I agree with most on here - the EK9 is a fabulous car and (in decent condition) the engines are great and they drive/handle beautifully. But they aren't as fast as some would suggest on here; certainly not going to murder a 1*2. I daresay from experience that the 1*2 will edge a drag (which admittedly is boring and only for Santa Pod freaks) but the EK9 does love the twisties too.

Id probably say the Ek9 and 1*2 are evenly matched in terms of pace, the Civic edges it on bhp/ton but the limits of each car is whoever is at the helm.

- ill say this though, ive never been in a FWD car (Merks Race Base EK9) that goes round corners aswell, so flat through the bends, absolutley frightening how quick it does it

Having owned both I'd say that the Ek9 is a tiny bit faster. The figure for 0-60 is in a completely stripped ek9 so the real figure is probably nearer 6.5 imo. I wouldn't say that it would leave it for dead, in all honesty I doubt you would see much difference at all unless in the hands of two professionals on a track. Day to day the 182 would probably be quicker due to the extra torque going up hills etc, however the ek9 in the right gear and in Vtec is a bit mean. I think I will stick with my ek9, faster in the corners (imo) and vtec gives you a massive grin!
