Can a standard clutch handle 204hp??

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
day to day will be fine.

it depends how you drive it etc, you can uprate to a helix organic which is good for 230hp for about £280 (plus labour)

its normally the torque that hurts them!

It doesn't.....it broke last night lol

That was a helix group N, seen me through over 15 track days though and 4 trips to the ring

Could a standard one handle that much abuse?!

Didn't you get a better release bearing for yours as well Ben? Where was that from?

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
it took me ages to find it, il try find the site. it was in france!!

it was a full steel bearing

IMO go for the group N again, if its took all that s**t and hasonly jsut give up then go for it!

the stock clutch would prob hold up for a while, but for the extra £130 is it not worth having peice of mind?

my stock clutch was fine for 45k with ITB's running 204bhp & 163.6lbs/ft @ the wheels. It's seen a few track days and one ring trip in it's time and gets driven hard a lot of the time. It's still fine at the moment, starting to bite quite high, but still a good 10-15k left in it imo.

I think it mainly depends on how much you abuse it, I'm pretty tame on gear changes these days as I'm more worried about the box lol

^gets more powerful every time does you car jon ;)

stock clutch won't handle it, yozza sell the uprated release bearings as well as grpN and grpA clutches from helix and valeo

  Cup Turbo, Flamer
Nice one cheers Fred, What's the difference between the group A and N? Just the amount of power they handle or their usage, i.e. track or race etc

^gets more powerful every time does you car jon ;)

nah, that's the same power output it's always made since it's last RR over a year ago. That's where the 240/193 came from... whether it actually is (was) that power is another matter entirely, but that's the figure it's always been. Regardless, it was 220bhp at the very least.

Technically no clutch will handle the power and will all let go eventually. For the price of a clutch a stock one handled the power in mine perfectly well and the car is on 82k as of today. It's never been replaced and has had ITB's for more than half of it's driving life... I'll replace mine with another standard one based on how well this has done

i know, i'm just winding you up! for the record everyone, jon does drive like a gay ;)

paddle is fine if its a track only car, forget it if its a road car

  Cup Turbo, Flamer
Group N again it is then!

Never heard of valeo before, compared to Helix (which has just gon on mine) which would be better? Is there much cost difference?

  Lionel Richie
valeo make the original factory clutches for renault

they also did the grpN for the rally boys in europe

valeo or helix, same thing pretty much!

Good stuff, time to get the wallet out then, cheers chaps.

Oh and while we are here, costs for a gearbox rebuild lol, yes that is on it's last legs also!!

*It doesn't rain....it pours*

yes and no, I like to go fast in straight lines because I dont know how to do corners... so it does get abuse, just a different kind ;) lol

paddle isn't great as said, they eat flywheels and kill gearboxes... not only that but the gear change is slow as f**k, seems to take an age for the clutch to disengage

flywheels last quite well, gearbox's don't LOL

it killed both on my mates one unfortunately.

I'm wondering what the supposed benefits are of them though, as no one has anything good to say about them... just seems they destroy anything else they are in contact with on Clio's lol

never heard of that personally, would have to be some serious abuse as people have done every SQM event through the year for several years and no issues... then again some people have no issue with the gearbox and I mangled 4 in the Williams... oops

look around the edges of this flywheel, and look at the colour!

lol, knowing Roamer I think he's the exception to the rule, mans a nutcase!

I dont ride my clutch or launch from standstill ever really... never had a clutch go, just gearboxes and engines... the cheap stuff lol

  Cup Turbo, Flamer
lol my standard clutch that died about 3 years ago just turned to dust and just gave up!

This ones had a good innings and quite a lot of abuse, so kind of expected, thought i may as well get the gearbox done as well as the clutch is out!

yeah if you have the cash at the time it's deffo worth doing if there's some miles on it. Mine's not too bad, not crunching or notching or owt yet and it's had a hard life... I'm very gentle on the box these days... unless I'm having a do with something I expect to pan me... like the GDI demo car or Evo's... then it's no holds barred!

  Lionel Richie
erm the only one i can think of that might do it is aldon automotive out near merry hill, or maybe give weston performance a call

  Renaultsport 220T
the stock clutch has a habit of exploding itself out of the gearbox when you get them really hot

never heard of that personally, would have to be some serious abuse as people have done every SQM event through the year for several years and no issues... then again some people have no issue with the gearbox and I mangled 4 in the Williams... oops

I know of at least three clutches that have exploded through the bellhousing so far.
