Can an RS Tuner turn an Air bag light off?

Hi All,

My borther had a small incident with a kerb which rear right wheel clean off and ruined the stub axle, and also set the side airbag off.

I'm, probably gonna fix it, becuase it seems such waste for the sake of an airbag and tensioiner to let go to waste.

my question is if I sourced a seat, could an RS Tuner reset the Lights? I know the RS Tuner can apply maps and run diagnostics, so I assume you can wipe codes, such as airbag and Serv lights or is it on a completly different ECU?

It is a different ecu so i don't think an rs tuner would be able to access it may be wrong tho.

So, a trip to Renault to have my pants pulled down for there services then.

Not necessarily there is somewhere you can send it away to and get it reset but i can't remember any details sorry.

I'm sure someone else will be able to tell me, or tinterweb. least I know there are other ways. Acutally looking forward to getting down with a little mechanical work. Just wish I had a garage.

Replace the SRS ECU - You can have it reset but it will always have the detonation event stored.

Second hand "like for like" unit from a same spec car being broken will plug straight in and give no issues other than the VIN's not matching but if I can sort that i'm sure there are others more local to you that can.

Spot on. I'm not a fan of lights on a dash board. How much roughly is a SRS ECU?

I've seen em go for as little as £10 - I've got a couple laying about the garage from various vehicles i've broken. If you can get me your part number i'll see if I can match it to one for you.

Take the cup holder out and it's a small metal box under there.

Thats it the bit with the airbag picture on think its just bolted to the floor.

Yeah, it doesn't look easy to get at to by the looks, but it was dark when I took the picture so might be a a case a few screws?

No problem Mick, thanks for checking anyway. So if source one from another Clio, could I take it to local Renault Specialist who would be able to sort it out?

You wouldn't need to unless you wanted the VIN numbers to match or to have the unit reconfigured due to say different equipment on the trigger lines as the SRS ECM is setup to expect specific resistance values on certain "Trigger" lines. If you get a unit from a Ph2 172 it will go in yours and work without the need for any coding.

Just be sure to disconnect the battery and leave it be for 10 minutes before playing with anything SRS related - Airbags going off in your face isn't big nor clever!!!

K-tec racing do a little device for £40 that will tell you why the light is on and will turn it of, i think it said it will work on any renault too

Thanks mate, but I know why my air bag light is on. I just wanted to know if I could wipe it using an RS Tuner. Looks like in better off replacing the SRS ECU. Thanks to Mick and his knowledge on this.

Are you sure it'll do SRS? I'm sure the generic code readers such as these £40 wonders are only able to look at the generic 'Engine' side of things rather than ABS/SRS/UCH/Alarm/TCS/ESP

im not sure mate, this is what the description says and it costs £42 "Turn off your own engine warning light and read and cancel any fault codes without paying a visit to the dealer. This unit is very easy to use and comes with an instruction manual that will help you read and cancel any codes that may be stored in the cars ECU due to any running problems etc. It is especially useful if you have a decat fitted as you can switch the engine warning/emmisions light off once it does come on, at the same time you can check to see if any other codes have been stored that you may be unaware of as you will have already had the light come on due to the decat. With the code reader you can check to see if you have more than one fault code listed which could help cure a problem before it starts to cause damage.

Please note this code reader has been tested to work on Renault models, many hand held testers do not work on Renault models."

I'd say an aygo would be obd2. No idea if the rs tuner would work though.
