Hi guys, just just found my hubby a nice 197 finally and when i checked mot history i came across this from 2013

  • Reason(s) for failure
Offside Rear Lower coil spring incomplete (2.4.C.1a)
Nearside Front Lower Ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)
Offside Front Lower Ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)
Nearside Rear brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Offside Rear brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Nearside Rear rear brake juddering severely (3.7.A.5b)
Offside Rear rear brake juddering severely (3.7.A.5b)
Offside Front rear brake juddering severely (3.7.A.5b)
Offside Rear rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)
Parking brake lever has no reserve travel (3.1.6b)
Since i know noting of cars am i correct in assuming that all that stuff would have had to been done 100% for the car to pass? thanks guys

Yes, if it was retested at the the same test station, but as that was 2013 more faults may be present by now.

That would all have had to be completed before passing, unless it was passed through a friend of the owner.

Ball joints are very common to go on the 197's and a pain in the ass to fix as Renault will only sell the complete lower hub assembly. You can buy the ball joints separately though and some people can press them in for you. Does the current owner not have invoices/receipts for work that has been done to put these failures right?

yh i saw the current MOT and it passed with no advisories, the guy who we bought if off said he used to be a mechanic and when i checked that mot history, it just made me abit nervous. if i take it in for a service will that tel me if theres anything wrong?
thanks guys

Take it to a specialist and ask for a health check. They'll be able to check the car over for you. You may even learn of some deteriorating parts that you can have refreshed now before they actually fail to keep it in good shape. A decent specialist through here will look after you.
