I have to agree with you visceral. Where I live I see Porsches, TVRs, a couple of Maseratis, Scoobys, Evos, Mercs and Beemers galore and none of them turn heads like a V6 Clio, partly because they are so common but mostly because the V6 has got something that none of the other cars have - uniqueness and charisma! I know that cars like the Scooby and Evo go well, but they arent very nice looking, neither is the CTR.

Lots of cars these days seem have a similarity to other cars, and some look as though they have come from the same mould, but there is nothing else which resembles the V6 Clio, it just has that certain something, that special je ne sais qua, that nothing else on the road has.

PETE IS A PUSSY - why dont you go and join the michael barrymores website and go and take a dip in his pool you fag - if you dont like someones car keep your gob shut you tit.

can i clear this up please! hehehe

If i had a V6 i would sit and look at it, then get in my 172 and pretend the V6 drove as nicely lol.

No harsheties, its the truth, the V6 is by no means a drivers car, its nice, sounds nice, nice motor and gearbox, but jesus is it horrid to drive.

peace..........

Bens dad has loads of Porsches in his garage in Hong Kong as well as Renaults. There are seven floors of cars.

basically he gets to play with cars that you will never get to drive in a lifetime. no disrespect but you obviously didnt know that before mouthing off. im not saying i share his views as ive never driven a v6 but he has definately driven one and more than once and i expect thrashed one within an inch of its life on a track

172loony how can you slate me when youve not even driven a v6,i bet youve not even seen one,i get pissed off with people on this site how keep mouthing off about cars they havent even driven:mad: everyone has different choices.

braodbean, its a nice car only problem is that its average in everything it does except the way it looks.

We are agents for Ren and Porshe and area FIA representatives along with a whole host of MTA organisations.

SO yes i do get to drive a load of lovely cars.

hes not slating you, he is trying to tell you not to jump to conclusions.

He might not of seen a V6 but your already assuming this, you had already assumed i had never driven one, i actively look after 14 of them, im quite used to their quirks.

You might love them and think they are fantastic, but fantastic to you might be average to me.........its still not a drivers car.

I think you are wrong. I also have owned and driven supercars of all types. I now own a v6 and will say with out a shadow of a doubt that it will keep up with a rear wheel drive car car pushing out more power than the v6, on country roads not on the straight.

My flat mate owns the new shape m3 with the smg gear box pushing out 360 odd bhp, he used to race 260 bhp caterams so he can drive. On the straight I now I have not got a chance but on the bendy stuff, I dont beat him but I can keep up!

They are lovely little cars to drive, they handle well, AP calipers and 330 discs mean braking is good. The down side is there power to weight, but as with the 5gtt give it a few years and there will be loads of performance mods available.

The best bit about the v6 is it looks different to any other car, not like the usual same looking cars we see each and every day.

And with the likes of supercars, you could drive from guildford to london and see several cars that would fit in that bracket but I doubt you would see another v6.

Just my opinion.

Dan.

yea, its rare, but gimmie a track and a V6 and an M3 and hell, there will be no change for the V6. Country lanes, you dont really have a change to get beyond pure grip of the tyres, but the V6 is vague at best.

i dont think parts will be as available as the GTT simple due to production numbers. There will be some but it will cost.

People who own a V6 arent in it for pure driving pleasure, simply because the V6 does not deliver that.

We all have our opinions, but since looking after them, their problems and not terribly good driving experience, i can say they are sacks of poo, 172/cup anyday. If i had that much money, it wouldnt go on a V6, but i have different issues to you most probably.

Yep on a trac an m3 is much faster. I get pleasure in driving my v6 are you saying that a 172/cup will out handle a v6 on the bendy stuff then??? Im up for a challenge.

I have a passenger seat available if you need a reminder of how they can be driven.

You are right with regard to there cost and what you could buy for the same money, but each to there own. And with regard to the cost of performance parts in the future, if you can afford a v6 you can afford the parts/insurance/fuel bills etc....

Mine will have 400 bhp within a week or so, dont no how reliable it will prove to be or how the gear box will handle the extra power but it will beat the m3 in a straight line and should do quarter mile in low 13s maybe high 12s.

Dont forget that this car is only a hatch back, still relatively new and being improved.

M3 is faster everywhere, you get pleasure from your car thats all that matters.

172/cupwill outhandle it, no challenge, its fact, can do a 100m slalom 0.4 sc faster. The front end on the Mk1 is so poor although most people say the rear is the weakpoint, its no, the rear is fine, the front is horrid.

I would meet you if A)i still had my 172 B)if tat 172 was in the UK and not in Hong Kong where i work.

No need for a demo drive, ive been racing since i was 8 and i dont like to mention it, but......no thanks.(y)

the MK2 is a totaly different beast, i just hope the front and rear subframes are better built and designed. Working on them you just see what a bodge TWR did.

i didnt slate you i was merely correting you on an assumption you made about ben, and yes i have seen plenty of v6s and i work in a bmw dealer and have many connections in the motor trade so get to see/play with plenty of different cars chill out mate

Ben and Loony i cant believe you are still sl*gging the v6 off,you pair of muppets are talking b****cks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sound like I am just complety out of my league talking to you, you clearly have more knowledge than me, you are a better driver than me, you have a better car than me. The list is endless. Thank you for finding the time to talk to me.

PS. Hong kongs a great place, I have spent time there working as a body guard. Did get my credit card cloned in the hotel though.

FFS Broadbean can you not read i never slated the v6 if you can remember that far back i said that i had never driven one all i said was that ben has driven plenty and you should not assume that he hadnt. jesus did IQs drop suddenly round here !!!!

Hmmm, I havent even checked this thread before but heres my 2p worth.

Ive loved the whole concept of the V6 since the second I heard about it. Ive never driven one and Ive only seen a few on the road. Maybe the old ones are crap to drive, maybe the new one is brilliant, I dont know. What I do know is most manufacturers would laugh in the face of someone who suggested they should drop a V6 in the back of a hatchback. But Renault made it. The general consensus seems to be that the Mk1 never fulfilled its potential, but if the Mk2 proves to be a vast improvemen it will surely cement the V6s place in history. Also the people who buy these cars are as much a part of its success as Renault are for making them in the first place. Its the bravery of Renault to build the car and the loyalty of the customers who waited years to collect them that push the industry forward. Five years ago the hot hatch was dead. Now theres a whole new market for very fast hatchbacks making nearly 200bhp. I think the reason for this can be traced back in part to the 172, but also the V6 without which, surely other manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, VW would not have made their super fast hatches.

jeeez, I really should get on with some work! Anyway I reckon the significance of the V6 is a much down to Renault building it in the first place as to what it drives like.

Like I said just my 2ps worth, could be a load of bollox!

Adios!

Rick

I work as a Guard for British Aerospace, "bae systems" Looking after high ranking over paid staff. I have also looked after some of the celtic players, Atomic kitten, etc... Do air shows and special events. But today Im in an office in Farnborough bored out of my head. work as a part time doorman as well for a bit of extra cash, helps pay for my over priced clio! lol....

I only used my card once to pay for room service and a month or so later I get my card bill for 5000 £. b******s. I have been there since but stayed in a different hotel.

Rick I think you hit the nail on the head, No car is perfect and they are constantly being improved/changed. I personaly think there great to drive. Renault done it before with the turbo 11 and they have done it again with the v6 clio, over priced yes but who cares its a great little car.

This is what a forum is for anyway, a difference of opinion.

Go to sussexcarz.com click motors and scroll to dans porsche to see the changes I made to my previous project.

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,

Ben

"172/cup will outhandle it, no challenge, its fact, can do a 100m slalom 0.4 sc faster. The front end on the Mk1 is so poor although most people say the rear is the weakpoint, its no, the rear is fine, the front is horrid."

Just spoke to the chassis engineer on the Mk2 from TWR - for the record the front and rear on the Mk1 are sh*te - hence the significant changes on the MK2 and the five updates issues to the race teams for the Trophy race car over the years - to suggest the rear is fine is laughable - to suggest the front is horrid is accurate.

The front hubs need raising on the wishbones to correct the geometry and the steering rack needs relocating to compensate and reduce bump steer - the flexing in the rear is down to the laguna front hub (now on the back!!) steering coupling (v weak) - the Laguna track rod end which then provides an kickpoint a third of the way up the track control arm is not clever and the track control arm fixing point is only supported on one side on a MK1 (Oh and its fixed on in the wrong place) - most of this results in compression toe out under flexing which is very, very bad. (but you drive a bit so youd know that)

This was not down to TWR but down to Renault using stock parts to maximise profits from the project. The MK2 rear subframe (heavily reworked and strengthened and its integrated anti roll bar is what should have been built in the first place (all to correct a high roll centre flaw in the original design) - the front is still sh*te but at least has some caster now to generate some feel.

Stick some AO48s on and a bit of negative at the front and shell go where you point her - just try to get the back going the same way is the tricky bit but with new bits and some adjustable dampers its just like an old 911 - a real b**ch but a hoot at the same time

Never let it be said that the Mk1 rear suspension is "fine"

Hear endeth the reading

Mike (half way through correcting most of this!)

Can I just say sorry for starting this whole thing, it was just to p*ss stevo off. V6 are great, every car has weekneses but even J clarkson said he would have one of the mk2s and he slates everything. I had my say and Im alowed that surely. I dont even rate my 172 anymore due to the bad driving possition. pedals that sit to the right, rattles, etc etc but Im glad its here and thats that...p

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,

But we do all have our own perfect car and thats why we modify stuff - life would be a bit dull if a manufacturer could build my perfect car and it fitted everyone else!

Heres to screwing around with cars till they fit the bill

Mike
